BURNING DESIRE

Written by: Nikki Owen

Article Overview: One week seems such a long time ago because I've just returned from Portugal where I was initiated in the art of Firewalking. It took just 4 days for me to discover that there is no logic, no trick to this impossible feat; simply trust and faith in yourself and the fire

BURNING DESIRE

What started out as a qualification to add 'Firewalking' to my expanding repertoire, evolved into a moving spiritual experience that has totally transformed my life.

Having arrived at Gatwick Airport at 5am last Thursday, my course was due to start at midday. To my utter disbelief I discovered that the flight had been overbooked and 5 passengers including myself were left stranded at Gatwick before being told to fly to Faro via Lisbon.

For those of you who believe in Cause and Effect I began to wonder why I had at some level manifested missing the start of the Firewalking Instructor Training. If I'm being totally honest I think the journey was designed to 'unsettle' me as I felt very confident that this training would be a 'doddle'. Incidentally, have you ever noticed how misfortune brings out the best in people? I met 4 lovely people who ended up reacting in an extremely positive way about the whole situation.

I finally arrived at my destination slightly dishevelled, tired and tense only to be told that I'd be doing my first firewalk within the hour! Watching a fire ignite and hungrily devour the wood, radiates huge heat and as the group circled the fire in amazed silence, I started to feel extremely scared. This feeling was compounded when Rolf our Instructor happily told us that he had no idea why it was possible to walk on fire that burned at 500 degrees centigrade. Apparently, even he has burned from time to time!

Watching the burning embers became faintly hypnotic as I realised that my determination and courage did not count when you were supposed to make friends with the fire. At some point I felt compelled to surrender my beliefs and with huge trepidation I stepped onto the glowing coals and safely performed my first firewalk. I can't begin to describe the euphoria as it hit me that I had just done something truly remarkable. In fact I was moved to tears at the realisation that we are all connected to the powers of the universe.
I did burn my feet a couple of times, which served as a reminder of the respect I needed to hold for the fire yet even when I could barely walk on the grass I found that I could walk on the fire unharmed.

During these four days I met some truly special individuals who exuded so much energy, wisdom and faith in their own abilities, that I was captivated by the inner power of friendship that this Firewalking Training created.
For those of you who have never done this before I urge you to do so, because it is a feat so extraordinary, so amazing, so impossible, that you have an inner knowing that you possess everything you need inside to ignite your power and potential.
For businesses everywhere, if you want your sales team to believe that they are capable of achieving huge increases in their sales results then let them experience a Firewalk.

I'd like to quote one of my fellow delegates, Kalid who sums up the experience so exquisitely: " These days were pure magic.....wow is the word that comes silently from my mouth over and over. And gratitude in abundant in my heart......My spirit is on fire, remembering all the moments we had, proofs of love, support and friendship and feelings I will never forget. Fear, Excitement, Doubt, Celebration, Courage, Awareness.........Wow, what a gift!"

Re: Going Back to Work after After Having Kids Re: Going Back to Work after After Having Kids - Hi Ladies, You're having an interesting discussion here. I've been married for 16 years and I don't have kids... yet. People do have many different perspectives on me being a childless career woman. Fortunately, I stopped listening to them a long time ago. I just joke and say my cats are my pseudochildren for now. I actually believe every one of us women have "mothering" gifts, but that doesn't mean we need to use them only to mother our own children. In fact, I think it's sad when women feel they have to give up everything in order to have kids. (If they DESIRE to, that's a different story.) They feel guilty when their own desire to "mother others in the world" tends to rise to the surface. Their kids are no less important just because their desire to make a difference in the world goes beyond the family. Jude, I like that you said about how going to work makes you happy. That's because you've chosen to do what you enjoy. If a Mom does what she enjoys, she will bring more life into her house. You can actually inspire your child by living fully alive. I wrote an article with that title... "Hey Mom, inspire your child by living fully alive." As long as this forum will accept it, I'll upload it on the site here along with another one called, "You are a great Mother (even if you don't have kids)!" I have clients who have kids and clients who don't. I find that when someone says to me that I don't understand her situation because I don't have kids, she actually means she isn't ready to look at what she can do to change her situation. I'm just the scapegoat. There are many women who have learned how to balance their families and their careers with great success. Thank you to those Moms for setting a great example for the rest of us! Warmly, Tami
