YOU HAVE TO DARE TO LOSE TO WIN

In somber mood, the frenzied crowd assaulted our senses as we emerged into the brilliant sunlight of the world's largest stadium confronting a gigantic team with a legacy of winning and unstoppable ability. A toss of a coin determined the chances we chose not to take as an atmosphere of caution blew the wind out of our talent, legs leaden with concrete confused our minds as defeat slowly crept into our hearts.

Blue shirts everywhere, blending into one single headed monster that penetrated our defences and attacked furiously, unrelenting until their command of the ball hugged the net once, twice…seemingly forever.

Then from out of the chaos, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, a little voice inside whispered, "You have to dare to lose, to win". In the midst of the noise, I began to experience a growing excitement that it was I who controlled how well I played. In the truth of the moment I became the one with the ball. Currents of energy, radiated through my body as I dug down to the bottom of my soul in search of courage, and the very act of seeking caused it to rise within me. In that moment I saw that dreams were only reality when you accepted responsibility for the creation of your life's destiny. As if by magic, lifted into a new sensation of infinite possibilities, I tackled challenge after challenge until the challenged became the challenger…

Free kicks are only free when you let go of the shackles of ordinariness and elevate yourself into the dimension of the unknown, the home of goals and dreams. I saw the ball in the back of the net before I had kicked it, self confident in the knowledge that I would achieve whatever I wanted…

Today, as I look back, the memory of that amazing game still causes me to tingle and exalt in the youthfulness of my spirit - the child in me awakened that day and led me by the hand into a new world of adventure, excitement and dreams.
