Change is a Conscious Mental Choice

by Bob 'Idea Man' Hooey

Sometimes in life, we have pivotal points where we have the opportunity thrust upon us to make changes. A death, a major illness, a sudden storm or typhoon, or a major economic upheaval can force us to take stock of our lives at that point and make needed changes. Isn't it better to seize the opportunities to change and grow as a positive, self-directed choice? Taking control of your life and making positive changes can be both liberating and productive, too.

• Want to increase your sales or commissions?
• What needs to change to make that happen?

It is better to be someone who is open to learn, to stretch, and to push yourself past your comfort zone into the winner's zone. Jack Welsh, former CEO of GE led his company through some amazing changes for increased profitability and productivity. He said, "Change before you have to."

This change is a choice! Life is a series of changes and choices; why not control the direction and pace? Like sailing where you are making a series of changes and adjustments to take full advantage of the wind to reach your destination. Similar in equipping and motivating yourself to best serve your customers and provide them with solid choices to improve their life or business.

"Searching for the peak performer within yourself has one basic meaning: You recognize yourself as a person who was born, not as a peak performer but as a learner. With the capacity to grow, change, and reach for the highest possibilities of human nature, you regard yourself as a person in process. Not perfect, but a person who keeps asking: What more can I be? What else can I achieve that will benefit me and my company? That will contribute to my family and my community?" Charles Garfield, Peak Performers

Ask yourself a few questions and allow your honest reactions to reflect the changes in your attitudes and actions that need to be addressed to maximize your life and career.

• What do I really want to accomplish in my life? My family life? My sales career? My business? My community involvement?
• What is my biggest dream? What would be the most fantastic experience?
• What am I afraid of?
• What is stopping me?
• What do I need to change to make it work?
• When will I commit to start making these changes?

Will you have the courage to change? Will you commit to being the best you can be and all that God intended you to become? Remember the words of J.C. Penney: "No one need live a minute longer as he/she is because the creator endowed us with the ability to change ourselves." The choice is yours!

Gardening reduces stress Gardening reduces stress - Hi Anon, In my case I think that my physical health does suffer - and I am pretty sure I am not doing a great job taking care of it. Finding the time to exercise seems impossible. The more probably reality is that I dislike going to a gym so it just isn't important enough for me to find the time. Mental health is different - I try to purposely set aside some time each week to recharge a little, sometimes it's a simple as going into my backyard and doing some gardening. Dead-heading flowers for about half an hour is pretty much stress free. If I really need a break I go to my cottage for the weekend - no cable, no internet and no phone.
Re: Spellcheck? Re: Spellcheck? -
When discussing the majority of people I would definitely say that most people hit the "Change" or "Ignore" button without thinking too much about the correct spelling of a word. All bosses are concerned about is getting the report to the Directors meeting on time.[/quote:2f894q6j] That probably depends on what the "majority" are trying to accomplish. I have word set to alert me about misspellings and grammatical problems, so I fix most as I go. But I also add names etc to the dictionary because I get tired of seeing the red and green squiggles when I know the info is right. If you're only going to click "Change" or "Ignore" then why bother to take the time to use spell check????? Business people that I work for want the info compiled in a timely manner and they want it right - which is fine because that's the way I strive to do any project. Sending out a memo, letter, report etc with obvious spelling and grammatical mistakes makes the person and the company look bad as far as I'm concerned. Shri
Re: Who hates cold calling? Re: Who hates cold calling? - About 15 years ago I worked for this sales company that used to sell anything from Kitchen Knives to Dry Cell Torches. The owner was a very motivating guy and he would ask us to get to the office by 7.00AM and we could sing and dance for an hour before we went to sell the products in the streets, stopping anyone and telling them our products were on discount. We used to sell snow to Eskimos, why were we able to do that? because of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). The key to cold calling is like beauty, in eyes of the beholder. If you have no PMA, you cannot sell. Remember the law of average that states that if you went to a dance and every girl or guy you approached for a dance decline your proposal. What do you do? Do you stop? If you have a PMA, you continue until you get one person who agree to dance with you despite how ugly you look, that is is PMA and that is the power of cold calling.
Re: e-Commerce and e-Payment providers Re: e-Commerce and e-Payment providers - Hi GT It is only fairly recently that people in South Africa have been able to get full use of Paypal as we were only able at one time to make payments but not receive them. Fortunately this has now changed. I have received money through Global X Change for one of the affiliate programs that I promote and have found them pretty good as the money is normally transferred directly into my bank account within 2-3 days and I have not had any problems with them. Re: Obama Wants Social Security for Illegals Re: Obama Wants Social Security for Illegals -
Obama WILL make changes... but they're not the changes we as a country need or should look forward to.[/quote:3kaa8sg4] Sad but this is exactly how I feel about it. Change is coming - but unless I'm really wrong, it is not a change this country needs. Amazing how much a good speaker with a good speech writer can do. If you paid attention to the things he said "off script" - much of it is frightening. Chris
