Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

Written by: Laura Posey

Article Overview: Oooh, I’m so excited! I love this time of year. The New Year brings with it the promise of new beginnings, new adventures and new opportunities. Are you pumped about your resolutions for this year? As you know, many folks struggle with keeping their New Year’s resolutions. It’s not that they are hard to set, but somehow hard to keep up with. One trip to the gym in January will tell you how many people have resolved to lose weight, yet another trip in March will show you how many have fallen off the wagon in just two months.

Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

Oooh, I’m so excited!

So, how do you keep resolutions? Here are my best ideas…

1. Begin by reflecting on 2009 and what went right for you. What goals did you set and make? What new and exciting things did you discover for yourself or your business? Make a list of the Best of 2009.

2. Make a list of all the opportunities you have in 2010. Perhaps the economy is improving, you have a new prospect, or a new product coming out. Write down all the things you are excited about in 2010.

3. Make a list of all the things you really want in 2010. Think about the stuff you want but also the way you want to feel throughout this year. Write down all the things and feelings you’d like to experience in 2010.

4. Pick three things from that list that you really, really, really want most of all. Write these three things on an index card. Each morning, read the card to yourself and remind yourself what you want to focus on. Each night, do the same thing before bed.

That’s it. These four simple steps work together to get your subconscious mind working for you throughout the year. By first priming your mind to remember what you are great at, then giving it a reason to believe this is going to be a good year and finally focusing your mental energy on just a few key things, you have increased your odds of sticking to your resolutions many times over.

As you go through the year, I’d love to hear how things are going for you. You can always reach me via email or you can catch me on Facebook as well. Reach out and I’ll friend you.

Here’s to a spectacular 2010 for you!

Re: What to do at the first roadblock? Re: What to do at the first roadblock? - GT said, I think seeing that the glass (i.e. market or opportunity) is only half full is a good mindset to have rather than looking at the sheer number of competitors. I would have to agree. I think this is a great thing to think about in almost any situation, whether home or business. As I mentioned, attitude is 95% of the battle. Keeping it positive is the only way to get the things you really want in life. Helping others helps, too. See the quote in my signature.
