The Genius At Work

Ever wonder why 80% of businesses fail in the first five years? Many people would say it is because they are undercapitalized. Michael Gerber, the genius behind the best-selling “E-Myth” would argue otherwise.

According to Michael all small businesses are failures and it is due to one, and only one thing.

If you are a business owner and you haven’t read Michael Gerber’s classis The E-Myth, you owe it to yourself to do so right away. Michael is a master of entrepreneurship and makes a great case that small businesses are failures because they fail to employ proper systems that allow them grow into larger businesses. That is, they fail to replicate and automate their best processes, thereby dooming themselves to being limited by the labor of the owner.

His basic premise is that most businesses are started by technicians, that is, people who are good at doing the work, and not by entrepreneurs, people who are good at building businesses. If you read the “The E-Myth,” you’ll discover how to transition from technician to entrepreneur and escape the trap of so many tired, demoralized business owners who are working too hard and making too little.

If you have already read “The E-Myth” you’ll be delighted to hear that Michael has written a new book, “Dream.” I had an opportunity recently to meet Michael at a conference and hear about his new work with extraordinary entrepreneurs. Check out his new book and let me know what you think!

If you copyright or register a trademark for your work your case will be a slam dunk. Don't be afraid to go toe to toe with a thief. I have been amazed at how fast people will back off when they realize they are dealing with someone that understands their rights. True the patent office is nothing more than a place of registry and does not enforce the law.
