How to change your life in just 90 seconds!

Six weeks - Six days - Even 24 hours. NO. All it takes is 24 hours to change your life for ever!

You know those self help books you see on the shelf at the book shop that tell you you can change your life in six months - six weeks - six days - Even 24 hours? Well they're right! In fact, all you need to do is follow the 90 second rule and you can begin to move away from where you are now and towards where you want your life to be. Just 90 seconds is all it takes.

Actually we all know that if we are prepared to do what it takes, then anyone can change their life for the better and start heading away from where they are now and towards where they want their lives to be. That part is no big secret. The part that very few people realise or understand is that from a scientific perspective, it only takes 90 seconds to change.

This point is beautifully illustrated in a CD book I have in my car at the moment entitled "My stroke of insight", written and recorded by neuro scientist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. What makes my stroke of insight fascinating is that Jill's professional work was studying what happens in a person's brain when they have a stroke. She lectured on the subject around the U.S.A. for many years until at the age of 37, she herself had a stroke.

In the CD book, Jill explains her recovery process from her specialist point of view with specific focus on the functionality of the two hemispheres of the human brain, the emotional and the logic and how they operate both independently and together in perfect synchronicity. Until it all goes wrong!

The BFO (Blinding Flash of the Obvious) in this CD book for me was what I call the 90 second rule. Jill Taylor explains, in scientific detail how our brains call up a thought or feeling in a given situatuion. Because we have experienced the vast majority of those thoughts and feelings previously, we simply retrieve them from the memory banks in our subconscious mind. That part I knew already. The BFO was that once the feeling and consequent physical reaction has been triggered by the thought, it stays in the mind and in the physical system for only 90 seconds. After those 90 seconds we have the choice to continue that programme in our mind or to simply switch it off and replace it with another programme.

As Jill Taylor learnt to think all over again as an adult neuro scientist, she realised that the neural connections with many of her old programmes had been damaged. When feelings of guilt, anger, anxiety or inadequacy rose in her mind as they often did during her recovery process, she understood in that moment that she had the power to choose, after 90 seconds to switch them off. She simply observed the absurdity of those feelings for 90 seconds, then she let them go, choosing new, positive programmes in their place.

It didn't surprise me to learn that Jill Taylor, at least in some ways considers her experience a gift. The real gift of course is that she chose to use that experience to help you and I improve our lives via a greater understanding of how our minds operate. If we are prepared to take full responsibility for our lives, we can literally decide our destiny every 90 seconds, regardless of our age or current circumstances. How incredibly liberating a feeling that is!

As for myself, I'm still using IE because of brand familiarity.
Bidding on EBay Bidding on EBay - Hey Buzz, My husband pretty much does what you mentioned in your post, except he actually takes it a bit further...My nutty husband sits there with a timer and his finger ready to click the mouse...when it gets down to the last few seconds (like 5 seconds) he places his bid... ...unless someone competing for the same item is sitting there doing the same thing (timer & all) chances are they will not have time to place their bid after him! Re: HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE! Re: HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE! - [quote="writer-ros":3ucfsvl7]I was very moved by this election. When you think that not so long ago blacks had virtually no rights - and now there is a black President. It just goes to show how things can change in a relatively short space of time. I think this is a very positive step for the whole world. BTW, does anyone else think there are some amazing similarities between this election and the fictional one shown in the fabulous TV series, West Wing, not so long ago? Is this art imitating life or life imitating art? Ros[/quote:3ucfsvl7] Hi Ros, I think it started with art imitating life, but now we are so influenced by what we see on TV, you can never know.
