The Impact of Mental Conditioning
Everything you do, every situation that you encounter, each idea that is presented, is filtered through your present day mental conditioning. Thinking, behavioural patterns, decision-making and ultimately actions are strongly influenced by our personal programming. This can be a factor in your ability to learn and implement new ways of doing business in your sales interactions. It may cause you to reject suggestions for improvement, new ideas, tips and techniques. Mental conditioning can be responsible for an attitude that says, I can't be bothered, I'm satisfied with what I do now, everything is working fine, or I can't see myself doing that, the result won't be worth the effort.
Potential programming concerns that you must be conscious of in order to better prepare yourself for success in your sales career are as follows:
- Nothing is changing in our industry which is not the least bit true, the business is in a constant state of change and evolution.
- I'm okay the way I am, there is no reason for me to change. There is always room for improvement, you can always do better and the moment that you stop striving for excellence in performance someone is going to pass you!
- I've maxed out on the amount of sales revenue or commissions available to me in my current situation. The only limits we have are self imposed limitations. The secret is to tap into the true potential of your brain and constantly strive for new innovative ways of stretching yourself to capitalize on new opportunities.
- I've learned all that I'm able or willing to learn. "The next step after ripe is rotten." You're never too old to learn something new and your willingness and attitude to continue learning is directly proportional to your drive, energy and commitment to being the best in the industry.
- No one can teach me anything of value it's a waste of time. There is always something new to be learned, as a matter of fact just about the time that you think you know it all, if you are paying close enough attention, you will find out how truly wrong you are.
- There's no point in trying the account isn't going to be interested in this new program, they always tell me no and reject my ideas. No doesn't mean no, it simply means not yet and the very moment that you give up and stop trying is usually when most people who press on experience victory.
"Change your thinking, change your actions and change your results."
