Sweepstakes Improve Business Sales

How are you promoting and increasing business sales? Have you ever thought about using a sweepstakes as a promotional tool? It can substantially help increase brand awareness and accumulate good publicity. Experts in this area will tell you that a sweepstakes should be complemented with some other promotional activities such as advertising, point-of-sales materials, etc.

The guidelines of your sweepstakes should be well-articulated and easy-to-follow to avoid any problems. Comply with all state and federal statutes. Include a complete description of the rules on every entry form. Be specific about all requirements for eligibility, deadline dates, where the promotion is void, the odds of winning, etc. In the case of later sweepstakes, it would be a good idea to keep a database of entries.

The following delineates some points of planning for a sweepstakes promotion in order to promote business sales. There are multiple benefits to be gained in hosting a sweepstakes, but it must be done diligently or your business can attract negative publicity instead of praise.

Planning Guidelines--

- Assess your objectives and marketing goals for the promotion.
- Utilize other marketing strategies in conjunction with the sweepstakes such as in-store displays, TV and radio ads, flyers, etc.
- Create a timeline and chart for responsibilities to be addressed and who will handle them.
- Determine how much money will be needed to host the sweepstakes.
- Select a theme for the promotion relating to a target audience.
- Determine the number of prizes, the number of winners, and how each winner will be awarded.
- Your company's name should be aligned with all sweepstakes material.
- Determine the criteria for assessing the results and choosing the winners.
- The sweepstakes form should be carefully looked over for clarity.
- Have a legal representative make sure all of the aspects of the sweepstakes comply with state and federal regulations.

Each form should include:

- Requirements to enter
- Prize description and limitations
- How the winner will be chosen
- Mailing address for entries
- Where to obtain official entries
- Deadline date for entries
- The number of entries allowed per person
- Age requirements
- Geographic limitations
- The odds of winning (if not based on number of entries)
- How winners will be notified
- If winner can be awarded cash or merchandise
