Written by: Christine Sutherland

Article Overview: Certainly there's a lot of garbage talked about NLP, and NLP has been used in unethical and distasteful ways. But if you strip out the hype and apply some critical intelligence, here's how it can over-deliver for you in the workplace.

How NLP Can Give You the Edge at Work

There’s no doubt about it, NLP has a bad reputation, not only for the way it’s been used so manipulatively, but because of the overblown hype surrounding it which has attracted NLP students for all the wrong reasons.

The real masters of NLP aren’t concerned with worthless “practitioner” or “master practitioner” certificates. They just quietly go about their lives, putting what they’ve learned to practical use, and they and everyone around them enjoy some rather amazing benefits.

Just one of those benefits is a real edge in the workplace and here’s why.

Having an edge implies 2 things:

• Performance which is at least better than average, and perhaps could even be described as “elite level”

• The ability to build high-quality connections with others

Let’s look at how NLP delivers both of these.

**Performance**

One of the key principles of NLP is stated as “anything which one person can do, so can anyone else given the same resources”, and for most of us those resources, one way or another, are accessible if we know what they are and how to get them.

Luckily NLP also delivers great strategies for identifying and accessing those resources. Firstly we have strategies to notice details which were formally below conscious awareness. With NLP training these things stand out in neon and we can quite comprehensively deconstruct and understand how particular skills have arisen in any individual. There is a clear trail to follow.

NLP also delivers accelerated learning strategies to literally “absorb” whole skill sets which we might observe in others. For example years ago I was struggling with a particular tennis stroke and just couldn’t get my head around it. I noticed that a top player had a particularly nice backhand of the type I was trying to develop and ran an NLP strategy called “modeling” in order to give my subconscious the experience of playing this backhand perfectly. This one exercise gave my game a quantum leap!

**Ability to Build High-Quality Connections with Others**

You can have all the technical skill or knowledge in the world, but if people don’t feel comfortable with you, you will never gain their trust and will certainly not become an effective leader.

NLP delivers the most powerful rapport and communication training on the planet, quickly teaching you to identify and understand different people’s thinking styles, and inner experience of the world around them. You become able to rapidly and accurately step into their shoes.

You develop flexible communication to be able to connect quickly with anyone, even if they start out quite resistant to you. And you understand immediately what each person needs from you in order to be productive.

NLP rapport and communication skills are often described as “spooky” because they are so far above and beyond what we’re used to experiencing.

With stellar performance and an incredible ability to connect and work with others, you’ll have an edge in life that will quite literally take you as far as you want to go.

Re: Have a Security Clearance Question? But are afraid to ask? Re: Have a Security Clearance Question? But are afraid to ask? - I think I've already addressed your topic in another forum or thread, but I think the easiest way to generate additional traffic to your web site is to provide content that is fresh, new, and insightful. Give users a reason to access your web site besides purchasing your services. Give them a reason to gain knowledge and they will come back and give you business when they can. Good luck in your campaign, and I hope everything turns out for you! One question I have is do security clearances check your family information as well (family criminal offences, etc).
