Another 10 terrific ways to motivate creative team behaviours
1.Never treat a team member worse than you would treat a Customer. And, never treat a Customer better than you would a member of your team. Your people are every bit as important to you as are your Customers!
2.Be more patient with your people than you are with yourself. This doesn’t mean accepting shoddy work or lazy behaviours. It does mean that you should remember and accept that your people are often less experienced or confident than you are
3.You can only be creative with what you can have, not with what you wish you had. Ideas can only be developed through using the possible
4.Challenge your people to try new things, suggest changes - but never to criticise things simply for being new. Equally, the expression: that’s how we’ve always done it – should be immediately questioned
5.Make sure your people have all the information to help them do (and improve) their job; not just the minimum you feel they need to know
6.Appreciate that it’s valuable to have people understand that creative doesn’t need to equal complex; often the best ideas are the simplest
7.Congratulate the people who make the most mistakes trying to improve things. As long, of course, as these aren’t repeated or lazy errors
8.Make people aware that the only thing that stops them achieving what they want is often themselves. Each individual is responsible for their performance. The words or actions of others only affect them when they decide to let them do so
9.Remind your people that the best way to get things done is to take the first step now. And then the second step right away. Soon, they’re climbing
10.Let your people be “cool” about being criticised by others; because people usually get criticised for trying things
