Can You Fail Successfully?

This is not another failures are just lessons lectures. This is Black Belt class right? Let's be blunt about it; failure sucks! Failure is, however, an important and essential part of success, but only if you learn to fail successfully.

Most people know exactly what they need to do to succeed in any particular goal. Whether or not you're going to do it may be an issue, but I'm willing to bet that in most instances you know what you want to do and you know what it will take to get there.

The real problem is that too many people don't know how to fail successfully or how to overcome failures without allowing failure and set-back to expand into defeat. While psychologists continue to debate the importance of positive outlook and biologists continue to debate whether or not we even have the capacity for actual free-will, let's get in the ring and deal with the reality of taking our daily blows and how to turn the tide when we're on the ropes.

Everybody faces failures. In my experience and research I can state with confidence that successful people fail a lot; they just learn how to deal with it! When you face failures and set-backs you really have just a few options:

• Keep going...This requires the Black Belt Mindset characteristic of Perseverance.

• Quit...BTW: This is the only option that guarantees a predictable outcome!

• Do nothing...unfortunately the choice that too many make.

"Too many people today are zombies. They go through life day after endless day moving without purpose. They keep moving but they don't know where they're going, where they've been, or where they are right now. They only know they're not happy. They're often pissed off at the world and ready to blame everyone else for their troubles. They're ready to surrender their freedom for the illusion of security, and they'll gladly give up the adventure of real life for a few relatively pain-free years of boredom.

"Zombies don't practice perseverance; this is complacency. Zombies don't live; they survive. Don't be a zombie! As the entrepreneur says in the wonderful movie "Big Night," ‘Take a bite out of the ass of life and drag it to you!'"

Life is not easy. It's full of disasters, disappointments, failures and set-backs. This is why it's dangerous to expect positive thinking to see you through all the time; sometimes you're going to be angry, frustrated and fed-up. Positive thinking should not be passive; too many people turn positivity into an excuse for doing nothing in the hopes that things will work out. They may, but you've got to take some action. Positive thinking is also finding the guts to work your way off the ropes when it looks like your opponent is about ready to finish you off. Perseverance is a decision to continue the fight whatever the odds.

Sometimes the best course of action is to throw in the towel...For now, let's stay focused on your will to succeed, even when you're taking hard shots to the body, mind and spirit. There are lessons in failures, pain and adversity, but you need perseverance to get through the thumping and work your way clear to see those lessons.

You know all the stories- Edison and the light bulb, Michael Jordan kicked off his high school basketball team; hell, I bet you've got plenty of stories of your own!
The best I can offer is some encouragement...

"No matter what, just stay true to your ultimate vision and keep fighting. Knocked down seven times? Get up eight!"

Re: What inspires you? Re: What inspires you? - Another inspiring thing is which I really likes "Most People Fail because, their dreams are small". Most people like to engage with something or teh other. If they can truly listen to their inner voice and work towards achieving it, then you can see "miracle in action". So, big changes happen, when you think BIG. If you cannot to think BIG, you cannot do BIG things too. Robert
