Is Ford's auto-xchange the "Real Deal?" (Survey Response 6)

Written by: Jon Hansen

Article Overview: In a recent video that was released by The Ford Motor Company, Ford's Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Jim Yost indicated that the company has to "share information in real-time" and therefore can no longer use "the sequential processes” in which there were many “handoffs" and "transfers of information." Yost also emphasized the fact that Ford needs to "integrate much more closely with their customers, supply base and even internally," as well as stressing the importance of making information available to multiple levels of their supply base "simultaneously," thereby eschewing the current "cascade processes that might take days, weeks and even months" to disseminate. Is Ford's auto-xchange the "Real Deal?" (Survey Response 6)

Pierre, MBA, Experienced Business Professional, Huntsville, U.S.

I'll say yes, it's real, somewhat expected, and something Ford can not back off from.

Years ago, Ford, GM, and Chrysler pushed much of the component engineering to the suppliers. Good news: it cut cost. Awful news: Your competitors will have access to the same technology you have, eliminating some control of features that can give a competitive advantage. And it can create misinformation if people who know the design history leave.

To address potential issues, Ford needed a way to interact with its suppliers, and "auto-xchange" or something like it was inevitable. The key issues is trying to make a competitive advantage out of it.

Ford does need to keep looking at ways to eliminate chimneys, or at least any perception of it. From that aspect auto-xchange will help.

Great question. Thanks for the link.

Survey the Landlord Survey the Landlord - Terry, my suggestion is simple but powerful - Survey. Survey Landlords and find out what is important to them. By doing this it does two things: 1. You will find out trends/under-operated services that Landlords are currently unsatisfied with = your client will be able to fulfill 2. You are infact Marketing your clients services by doign this because when you are approaching your landlords it not a sales pitch and they have someone to clear their frustrations with. Then when you approach them after a month (when you've put your numbers together and identified services that are most important) you can remind them of the survey and share with them the results. At this point you can end with an offer to use your clients services to manage their property. I use this method with my clients who are looking for new services to develop in thier markets. It's simple but powerful.
Re: What newsletter program to use? Re: What newsletter program to use? - Like GT and David I use Get Response and have not had any problems with them other than when they were converting to their upgrade. So as long as they continue to give me the service I will stick with them. I know that most people recommend Aweber. MichelleJ
Survey Monkey Survey Monkey - Hi ltrahan - interesting concept - how have you found Survey Monkey? Is it a good service?
Survey Monkey Survey Monkey - I found Survey Monkey to be a good service as well, it was useful and got the job done. Like Itrahan was saying though, the basic "free" services are a bit limiting though.
Who inspired you to start? Who inspired you to start? - When I was a teenager I read "The Art of the Deal" by Donald Trump while on a road trip to New York City. It helped inspire me to want to start my own business and is also one of the reasons why I have created so many famous entrepreneur profiles. I believe that by modeling the success of other entrepreneurs you too can become successful. Who was it that inspired you to start your business?
