Is the Government of Canada's Shared Services Strategy a Threat to Small Business (Survey Result 2)
Marc, Creative Technology Strategist, Toronto, Canada
Do you mean a threat to the vendors who make their living supplying the GoC. It may be a threat to some, a boon to others, and quite honestly, I dont think it is the job of the government to align itself with the needs of its suppliers. Rather it should be the other way around.
My Response:
Thank you for your concise thoughts Marc.
Why do you believe that it will be a threat to some and not to others? Can you also expand on your line of thought regarding the issue of alignment?
Marc's Closing Comment:
Regarding your first question, In any market shake up, some will win, some will lose - in this case, those who adapt to the GoC's NEW needs, will prosper - the others won't. In addition, I would hope that the GoCs needs will diminish rather than increase - so you will see market shrinkage in general.
In terms of the second question, it's pretty simple - The GoC is supposed to serve the people, not employ them. Service industry support is inevitably required, but overall expenditure should be optimised such that every dollar possible goes to the end service offering to the citizens. By that token - if the GoC can eliminate say interdepartmental bike couriers - they should, regardless of what the bike courier lobby says - In fact, that lobby should be ashamed of itself.

Re: Can someone explain Search engine optimization to me?
- Hi,
Ask yourself, "What is the goal of a search engine like Google?"
A search engine's goal is to provide the most related (or best) web page results when someone searches. Do you think people are searching for "Auction Cars Government" or "Government Car Auction."
In fact type those keywords into Google with the quotation marks. You will find that Google gives different results for each keyword phrases. Granted you get many of the web pages ranking the same but there is a difference.
My answer is, use "Government Car Auction" or even "Government Seized Car Auction" because that is what people are searching for. That is how the majority of the indexed pages use. That is what makes sense when you read the phrase.
