It is interesting that you refer to both Wal-Mart and Dell.

In July I wrote an article titled Public Sector Procurement and the Wal-Mart Effect (see link below). The basis for the post was to provide insight into government organizations that had the inclination to emulate the Wal-Mart "model."

As you read the results of several studies the question of whether the Wal-Mart approach is sustainable may give you pause for thought in terms of the term "poster child."

Conversely, my research of the emerging Cisco model which was reviewed in a December 3, 2007 article, (Is Cisco Really Driving 21st Centurty Supply Chain Innovation?) demonstrates the paradigm shift that is taking place in supply chain practice.

In fact this shift was further illustrated by the April 11, 2008 post Is Ford's auto-xchange the Real Deal?

Whether Cisco or Ford can achieve the lofty objectives associated with their aggressive strategies, this is nonetheless an indication of the dynamic changes that are re-shaping supply chain practice over the next 25 years and beyond.

Note: On May 1, 2008 my latest white papers, The Ariba Interviews: Re-engineering the Future of On-Demand, and Dangerous Supply Chain Myths will be released.

I like the mix of prize draw plus a prize for the top poster. I guess that gives everybody a chance to win and so everybody has an incentive no matter when they get involved during the month or however far behind the current top poster they may be.
Re: Does birth order influence the desire to start a business? Re: Does birth order influence the desire to start a business? - I'm not sure about birth order.... but I think if you're an only child it definitely makes a difference, as that child is - typically, but not always - spoiled rotten, which may or may not influence his or her later life...
Re: How important is your name? Re: How important is your name? - Hi GT, I also agree with you. I believe your name is you, and you shouldn't be ashamed to name your business after you, I also have a blog with my name on it. But calling your child after you? I will never do it to a child.
Re: Philately As An Online Business?? Re: Philately As An Online Business?? - I would have to agree it is a unique niche to explore - but I would propose that managing inventory of that kind is delicate and highly fragile. You will need to do your homework in setting up as an affiliate of a parent company, or if you're managing your own inventory and supply chain - you will want to research respectable partners to align with. I would suggest opening up your business to currency as well. Old stamps, current stamps, and old currency are common collector's items. An online business would capitalize on the worldwide market. Good luck!
Re: How important is your name? Re: How important is your name? - Hi GT I agree with you each child has their own unique personality and desires and I don't think that parents have the right to choose what path a child should follow. I believe that all we can do is teach them good values educate to the best of their abilities and then it is up to them to decide their own path. MichelleJ
