Starting a new business is not about you

1) Business is not about you. It will never be.

As far as we can tell, Business is about everybody else. It makes things easy for people. All great businesses solve a problem.

Ask Yourself Question #1: What problem is my business solving?

Most entrepreneurs starting out in business try to solve their own problems first. They may say other things (because they want to look good etc.), but operationally, they are out to solve what they want first. This is not an issue in and of itself, because I believe we should solve our problems. Except, in business the first problem you need to solve is somebody else’s. Not yours! By the way, when you solve other people’s problems your “problem” disappears anyway.

2) Find out what is needed and wanted
Many new entrepreneurs are not in Business. They may think they are, but they are not. What they are doing is their “passion, self-expression, something they are very good at - simply said, their talent.” Most new entrepreneurs are out to give people what they want – not what the market is requesting. More often than not, new entrepreneurs do not start out with what the market needs and wants.

From RSC Business Group’s point of view this is not Business. That is an “art.”

Now, being an artist is a wonderful thing. We are not suggesting that people should not be artists. That would be pointless. What we are saying is that, being in business as an artist does not work.

Ask Yourself Question #2: How is my business going to find out what is needed and wanted?

Remember, all great businesses solve problems and if you want to be the type of business that actually makes a difference, builds trust, and provides value it will require a new skill-set and a new approach.

You will need to learn to listen and build relationships with people in a whole new way.

You too can reap the benefits of being in business as a business person (versus being in business as an artist).

They truly are tremendous.

I personally have spent 1800$ to start my home business, because I got scammed a lot. Start-up capital also depends on how much an entrepreneur is going to make from his business. Re: What exactly do you need to start a business Re: What exactly do you need to start a business - Starting a business takes many things. Like guts and brains. But what I find pays off the most in online busines is HARD WORK. There is no better alternative. The more energy you use to make your business successful, the better your chances of it being successful
Re: Before you spend all your money on a prototype Re: Before you spend all your money on a prototype - Market research is important not only in the case of inventions, but in business as well. Starting a business without first researching to see if there is a need or how much competition one might have can finish up costing more than it's worth. So market research is essential and the majority of people have no idea of how to go about it. MichelleJ

Would you risk your house for your business? Would you risk your house for your business? - For many new entrepreneurs finding startup capital can be a real challenge. The potential investors / lenders that you talk to don't understand your industry and miss the opportunities. Meanwhile banks are not typically very startup friendly. Starting a new business does require a lot of time, energy, and sacrifice. I'm curious as to how much you would put on the line for your business. If you needed the money would you put up your house as equity for a loan from the bank?
