3 Qualities of a Good WordPress Theme - WordPress Design

I recommend a WordPress design for all my clients with established businesses. Once you've used HTML landing pages and one-page websites to find out if there's a market, the next step is to build out more optimized and targeted web pages to attract more attention and get more traffic. This is where WordPress comes in.

WordPress designs make website optimization easy. Google loves WordPress and most blogs do well in the search engines, but certain themes have components that can improve not only SEO. Now, SEO isn't theonlyreason to utilize WordPress. Other design components are important as well, and certain themes are better than others when you're thinking of customizing the look and feel of your site.

  1. Is it widget ready?Widgets are a critical part of customizing your theme. I religiously use the GLock Double Optin, ACE Recent Posts and Comments, Calendar, and Blogroll widgets with almost all of my clients.
  2. Is it easy to customize? Some themes make it very simple to choose what categories you want to display, the number of posts to show, and what size you want your thumbnail images. Others will even allow you to choose between using a custom image or dynamic text for your header logo area. These features make basic customization simple and quick, exactly the way it should be.
  3. How easy is it to integrate images into posts, home page content, and pages? If the theme integrates the TimThumb PHP script, you won't have problems. TimThumb dynamically resizes your images and makes them easy to manage. Many themes will require you to change code or deal with another image management website which can be a real pain at times.
There are so many themes out there now that it's hard to keep up. Most of the premium themes look great, but you can't judge a book by its cover. Make sure a theme is widget ready, easy to customize, and integrates images in the simplest way possible.

Re: Poll: Blogger or Wordpress Blog? Re: Poll: Blogger or Wordpress Blog? - I’ve tried Blogger before. Then I decided to “migrate” my blog to WordPress. But I’m still maintaining the blog at Blogger because I still can’t figure out how to add Google adsense scripts on my WordPress blog.
Re: Poll: Blogger or Wordpress Blog? Re: Poll: Blogger or Wordpress Blog? - [quote:1oty75kx]Somewhere (maybe earlier in this topic thread?) somebody pointed out a difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, but I don't recall what the difference is.[/quote:1oty75kx] Wordpress.org is blogging software that you can use on your own host and domain to blog. It is what most people mean when they talk about Wordpress and it is also what most "wordpress blogs" are created with. You have full control with it. This is highly recommended. Wordpress.com on the other hand is sort of like blogger in that your address will be xxxx.wordpress.com and it stays hosted on wordpress. You can use your own domain but you still don't have full control of the blog. Basically using this is not recommended. I made that mistake with my first WP blog because I didn't know the difference and it got shut down for affiliate links.
Advantages of WordPress? Advantages of WordPress? - Hi mphcoach, For those of us who don't know, can I ask what are the advantages (i.e. aside from the "easy to use content management system") of creating a website using WordPress? Thanks
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - Hi David - what I usually do for my blog is write a series of posts in advance and then just post-date them so that they go live automatically on the right day. It`s a build in feature in WordPress and I believe Blogger has recently added the feature in as well.
