4 Steps to Optimize a WordPress Page For Search Engines - SEO
The pages on your WordPress site (not posts) are your most important links to the outside world. Why? Because pages change much less frequently than posts and serve as the core message of your business. If building a WordPress website is like building a house, your pages are the foundation.
Here are four steps to optimizing the pages of your WordPress blog or website.
- Choose your keywords carefully.Google's keyword tool is an excellent place to start looking for the right keywords and phrases to spread throughout your site. You can use the tool to see how many searches are conducted for each keyword or phrase and how competitive those searches are. Caution: if your keywords are too competitive, it may take months to get on the first page. If the words are not searched enough, you may not generate enough traffic to earn more clients.
- Use keywords liberally and naturally. The text of your landing pages needs to be full of your top three keywords. Keywords should be inheadings and throughout the textinboldanditalics. But don't be "spammy" about it. Search engines pick up on keyword density and may penalize you for creating unnatural content.
- Use keywords in your title and description tags.Title and description tags are probably the most important controllable factors in your SEO. Search engines weigh these two tags more heavily than any other content you can add to your site. If the title of your home page is your company name, you either run a multi-million dollar operation with great name recognitionoryou don't get very many (if any) hits to your site.
- Build links. This is the hardest part of optimizing your WordPress pages. The search engines love links and the more you have, the better your rank. It is time consuming and sometimes difficult, but it is well worth the effort when prospects start dialing the phone because you're on the front page of Google.
