Five Steps to Creating a Simple Blog in Less than 30 Minutes
There are currently millions of blogs on the internet with just a fraction of those commissioned by business owners. There are two benefits to blogging that cannot be overlooked by business owners. The first and most obvious benefit is that your business gets exposure to a potentially huge number of prospects. The second benefit comes in the form of cash from advertisers. As your credibility grows, the number of visitors increases along with the number of clicks to the ads on your page. So how do you start a blog and, more importantly, how do you market it once it's live?
Starting a Blog
Starting a blog is easier than you might think. Of course, it will take longer if you have no .html or .php experience, but it can be learned like any other business skill. I have found Wordpress to be the most user-friendly blog service out there, so this tutorial will demonstrate how to start a basic blog on their site.
1) Visit wordpress.com and start an account.
2) Log in and click on the link to the blog you started when you registered your account. It's on the left-hand side of the screen.
3) Click on the "Add New" link under the "Pages" heading on the left side of the page. For this example we'll just create one page titled "Sports".
4) Also on the left-hand side is a section call "Post". This is what you use when you are ready to say something on your blog. Click on it and enter some information. For this example, maybe you want to talk about Derek Jeter's stats or something like that. If you misspell something or make another error, you can always fix it by clicking "Edit" under the "Pages" heading.
5) When you are done posting, you can see what you've written by clicking the link at the very top of the page on the left-hand side.
The instructions above are for very basic blogs and a basic blog is all you will need to get started and attract some attention to your business. If you want to change the look of your blog, click on the "Change Theme" tab in the middle of the page and choose the design you like most.
Pretty Simple, Right?
You know what? It is that easy. You could start a blog today in less than 30 minutes. But the trick to making money with your blog is in how you market it and I will deal with that topic in an upcoming article.
