How to Use the Wordpress Admin Page - Posts - Wordpress Design

Blogging is all the rage for businesses today. With more than 115 million blogs, individuals and businesses are jumping on the bandwagon in droves. This article deals with what a "blog post" is and how to create a post using the WordPress blogging platform. If you're new to blogging, posts are the entries that bloggers usually (but not always) display on their home page.

If you want to create a post on your WordPress blog, follow the directions below. These are the big picture instructions. I will follow them up with some specific details about what needs to be included to improve the look of your post as well as SEO.

How to create a blog post in WordPress

Step 1:Log into the WordPress admin panel for your blog.

Step 2:Click the Posts tab on the upper left side of the screen.

Step 3:Under the Posts tab, click Add New.

Step 4:Add your title and the content of your blog post in the appropriate places.

Step 5:Where applicable, create a category, tags, excerpt, trackbacks, custom fields, and post comment options.

Step 6:Click publish

Easy, right? But there are some things you need to think about as you write that will improve your SEO and help attract visitors.

Keywords- Keywords are the foundation of your blog. Make sure you know your top 3 keywords and that they appear at least once in every post you write.

Post Title- Use your top keyword or keyphrase in every post title. Using the same title twice can cause some errors on your blog and might seem a little "spammy" so avoid doing it.
Post Editing- Don't forget to highlight your keywords and phrases by bolding them when they appear. Search engines pick up on emphasized text to validate what the author is saying.
Preview- Take a look at your final draft before publishing. You may see a misspelled word or two that needs to be corrected.
Post Tags- WordPress calls post tags "micro-categories for your blog", similar to including index entries for a page. Posts with similar tags are linked together when a user clicks one of the tags. Add tags to your post. Post tags should be the top 10-15 keywords or phrases that are most important to your blog.
Discussion- The discussion section helps you control reader comments and notification of your posts. IfAllowing Comments is unchecked, no one can post comments on the post. If Allowing Pings is unchecked, no one can post pingbacks or trackbacks to the post.
Password Protect This Post- You can also password protect your posts to allow access to only subscribers or members. To password protect a post, click Edit next to Visibility in the Publish area to the top right, then click Password Protected, click Ok, and enter a password. Then click OK.
Once you publish your post, it will appear on your blog or index page and you are ready to go!

Re: Poll: Blogger or Wordpress Blog? Re: Poll: Blogger or Wordpress Blog? - Blogger is a good place to start blogging simply because it is so easy to set up a blog and go. However, Wordpress has a lot more to offer. I recently set up a membership site in about five minutes flat on a Wordpress blog on one of my websites. I haven't had time to develop it yet, but the point is, you can do that sort of thing on Wordpress but not on Blogger. That is just one example of the versatility of Wordpress.
Re: What are the ways to start a business with a small capital? Re: What are the ways to start a business with a small capital? - Great tips, everyone! I totally agree that blogging is the way to go. You can help brand yourself and be seen as an expert in your niche, and it's more personalized. GT, that's very possible. I can believe that their blog would get shut down over too many affiliate links. Does Wordpress specifically have terms about this, though? I have a self-hosted Wordpress blog, and since it's on your own server, you have complete control over it. There is no one to tell you what you can and can't do with it. A Wordpress-hosted blog, however, would be under Wordpress's terms of service. That would be interesting to know since I was considering starting a blog on Wordpress. Alan
how do I get started with Wordpress blog? how do I get started with Wordpress blog? - Hello All, It's time for me to get serious about a blog - which I have definitely been resisting. I've read some posts here in the forum that suggests Wordpress Blog is the best and it's interactive. I am currently set up on blogpspot.com but haven't been active for a long time, so it's not problem for me to switch. Where do I begin with Wordpress and after I make a blog post can anyone comment back? Can I monitor the comments? How is Wordpress different or better than blogspot.com? Thanks, Nancy
Re: how do I get started with Wordpress blog? Re: how do I get started with Wordpress blog? - I agree that anybody thinking about starting a Wordpress blog should buy a domain name and set up a hosting account. When choosing a hosting account, make sure it is one that is set up for Wordpress and includes an easy installation script such as "Simple Scripts". Two web hosts I'd particularly recommend for Wordpress are Bluehost and Hostgator.
Blogger Vs Wordpress? Blogger Vs Wordpress? - Hey all, I have around 12 or 13 blogs. Most of which I host on my own server so I can use Wordpress. Was wondering if anyone else had pros or cons on Blogger or Wordpress? I happen to really like Wordpress because of all the plugins and themes you can use. I happen to dislike Blogger because of the limited themes & layouts. Also it is a pain in the rear to do a split blog post, where you can have a small part of the article showing with a 'read more' link for the rest. I do like the fact that on Blogger my blogs get picked up quicker by google. Go figure, since they own Blogger it isn't surprising. Any positives or negatives on either one? .
