How to build backlinks.

Google is the undisputed 800 lb Go'rilla, so when you are looking to get to the top of the search engine pile you want to be on the top of Google.

Google knows that they are the 800 lb Go'rilla, and knows that people will try to game them, but Google can easily see through any link facade you might be trying to run, and they will penalize you for it. Links building needs to be done with these 3 things in mind:

1. Start Slow, Gain Momentum

2. Spread Out Your Link Sources

3. Get Your Most Authoritative and Relevant Links FIRST

A lot of movies and news stories can create the kind of buzz that gain thousands of back-links in jus a few days. Websites on the other hand has a little slower link growth. Even most news stories don't hold their ranks in the SERPs very long, simply because they get a blast of links, and then that's it - they don't have a steady stream of people linking to the website, which is what Google is looking for.

So that tells you some of the big "G" wants. In other words make your link building look natural. Your links should be slow and spread out over your site not just on your index page. Start off slow and gain momentum. If you want to build 10 or 15 links a day, start of with just a few a day for a few days. Work up to 10 or 15 after about 5 or 6 days.

Also spread the links out over your site. The more natural looking it is, the more effective (and higher ranking) it will be. Most new marketers do not really think through his/her traffic strategy. Most think "Article marketing" will do the job for them. Why? They think article marketing is the "end all" for backlinks and traffic. Yes article marketing will get you some traffic but it is only one part of a good backlinking system that will get you to the top.

If you are concentrating 100% of your efforts into creating and posting articles to Ezinearticles.com or GoArticle, or any other article directory, you won't get the kind of ranking you are looking for, quickly or easily. Why not? Google looks for a natural pattern of links. Your site may have a 120 backlinks but....all those backlinks are coming form just 1, 2, or 3 sites. When Google sees that only 2 or 3 sites find your website interesting and relevant enough to link to. The result? Not very much "weight" in the search engines. You want to spread your links out from many, many sources - here's a small list to get you moving in the right direction.

1. Website Directories

2. Article Directories

3. Blogs

4. Competitor Websites

5. News Websites

6. LinkVana

7. Forum Signatures and posts

All of these should be employed in one way or another when you are working on a link-building campaign.

Try to get the most authoritative and relevant links first. That is the link with the best page rank, or a .edu or .gov backlink This is huge, as link age, and authority has a lot to do with your ranking in Google as much as anything else. You are going to want to grab your most authoritative and relevant links in the beginning, so that as the months go on and you build more and more links, you will be aging your most important links. Here is a small list of the links you should try to grab early on:

Website directories DMOZ, Yahoo

High PR Niche websites

Some say your "competitor websites" but they may want to much. Me I like FREE high PR backlinks. It take a little more time but it pays off in the long run. I have some sites that I have used my backlinking system on and those sites are on the first page of Google. Every once in a while one of my sites may fall off of the front page. All I have to do is use one of my high page rank backlink resource sites and BAM! right back on the first page.

Getting on the first page of Google and staying there is like being a Old West gun fighter. There is always someone out there "gunning for you". They want to knock you out of the race. Send you to "the search engine boot hill-page 195662".

When you use a slow steady backlink building system, getting to the first page of google is very attainable!

There are a lot of PR-6 authority sites, that you can get backlinks from at no cost. There is even one PR-10 site that will freely give you a backlink. You can't get no better than that. So if you would like to get in on some good backlink love think "free" and stay away from the link farms. Your wallet will not like it and Google does not like it.
