The Heroes Control Their Business

Written by: Dan McDevitt

Article Overview: Control. Creative problem solving works well. Control is good, positive, with purpose. Management needs to be in control. Love is the most powerful force in the universe. We have this power within us. We give it and receive it, try to understand it, share and use it every day interacting and communicating with each other. We try to be less barbaric and more gracious. Some days are better than others.

The Heroes Control Their Business

No need to worry. Hero in Control.

The Heroes know that control is good, positive, with purpose.

Labels of micro managing and control freak may be applied when the necessary control function of management is poorly thought out or implemented.

Some employees, who liked me, once bestowed me with the title 'Helicopter Manager'. They said I hovered around too much. Looking over shoulders, I was a pain in the neck. It was not said to hurt me, but there was a sting to it. They wanted the same things I wanted, but with smaller doses of observation and hot air.

They needed more support, less stifle. I was learning too slow and leaning too much. I did learn and relearn a few times how to help my team and myself. Management stealth is better health. My lesson learned was do not hover.

The answer to what is control is this.

Control is corrective and/or preventive actions set in motion, to better align personnel and performance desired, to meet company objectives. We must control the plan we organize and direct to reach our goals.

The answer to why control is we are management. The answer to where and when to control has to be learned individually and relearned eternally. The fourth function of management is to control.

Be a hero. Be in control.
