12 Steps to Implementing Anything in Your Business : Step Three: Organise your Staff and Create a Strategy
|
| Guest post by: David Flannery |
Article Overview: Step two dealt with the creation of a good clear assignment. Now, I want to speak about how to respond to a clear assignment, once you have created one. You do this by organising your staff and creating a strategy. What I mean by organising your staff is the creation of a core team. This team will be responsible for the implementation process in your business. If you have a small staff number in your particular business then you can do one of two things, make your entire staff the core team or select one person who will "champion" the process.

12 Steps to Implementing Anything in Your Business : Step Three: Organise your Staff and Create a Strategy
Step two dealt with the creation of a good clear assignment.
You need to be as selective as possible, when picking members for your core team or champion. The core team is a small group of people that will have to work together towards a common goal, and the champion will have to possess a lot of diverse qualities to see the process through.
The strategy is the basic plan that you will follow to achieve your goal. It will be the basis for detailed planning and action. The strategy need not be a firm plan at this stage. At this stage it is good enough just to provide a flexible framework for further work.
At this stage your strategy will spell out the following factors:
· The goal to be achieved, and when you know you have achieved it.
· The target date for goal achievement.
· The avenues to be looked at in order to achieve the goal.
· Risks involved, and the actions needed to avoid them.
· A flexible timetable for action.
At this stage flexibility is important until all avenues have been tested and the optimal path has been identified.
Remember this, there is no one right strategy, there is only the best one available to you at the time of implementation.
Once you have a strategy in hand and decided on by the core team or champion, have it condensed down to a one page summary. This will tell you if the strategy has been thought out.
The one page summary should be clearly written in language targeted towards the average reader.
This one page summary should address the following issues:
· The issue being addressed.
· Outlining the goal.
· How it is measured.
· The major actions to be taken.
· The timetable for implementation.
The one page summary will form the basis for the next step, which I will cover in the next article
