SMB-Speak: Small Business & the American Dream

There is a brotherhood of salespeople pursuing the American dream. They represent the universal opportunity to improve one's station in life. For decades, people have immigrated to America to find personal, financial, and religious freedom. They did not come to America to work for large corporations or the government, or to become part of "the system". They came with a dream of opening a small business and building financial independence. And The Dream lives on today.

Back in the day, immigrants would open a business shining shoes, selling apples and newspapers, and providing every imaginable service to the buying public. Even today, young men anxious to escape poverty go door-to-door selling magazine subscriptions in an effort to find a better life. Those willing to pay the price can find opportunity in Sales they would not otherwise know. Selling equals freedom - from poverty, from fear, from limitations. And selling remains a main ingredient for making the American Dream.

An entrepreneur commits to building a business. He employs people; many grow up, get married, and build families. They buy cars and homes and save for their children's education. In this way, the cash flow that small businesses generate goes directly into their local economies. These small businesses are part of the fabric of the American economy. All of this happens because someone made a sale. If there are more sales, there will be more revenue. And we will be a step closer to the American Dream.
