iPad: A Miss for its Wi-Fi Function
If you are a tech junkie you
probably are already sick of hearing about the release of the iPad. It hasn’t been an official week yet and
there are now thousands of articles about it. The latest news is about the Wi-Fi capabilities.
Many people have already
returned the iPad because they are only able to get a weak connection or unable
to connect after waking their iPad up from sleep mode. Apple has acknowledged the problem and
has stated that, “Under certain conditions, iPad may not automatically rejoin a known
Wi-Fi network after restart or waking from sleep. This can occur with some
third-party Wi-Fi routers that are dual-band capable when: Using the same
network name for each network, [or] Using different security settings for each
network.” (source: wired.com)
If
you were looking forward to using any VoIP apps on the iPad, this news could be
very disconcerting. VoIP is a
great choice for those of you who make long distance calls regularly. IP phone systems have become very
popular in business settings as well—especially for those with multiple office
locations.
The
iPad has been foreseen as something that could benefit business workers on the
go, but this first release of iPads seems to have missed the boat when it comes
to VoIP. Or at least until it can
get a handle on their Wi-Fi.
