Even In Small Bites, Spending Is Hard To Swallow

America's Already Carrying Around A Big Debt Gut I'm a nice guy, right? And I really hate to be critical. Really, I do. But I find myself needing to level some biting criticism at what the U.S. administration is cooking up these days.

The president has been on the campaign trail since early last month, insisting that the Congress "pass this bill now" - in reference to the latest half-billion-dollar spending legislation he's given the Orwellian label of "jobs bill." The Senate, though - that's the house of Congress controlled by the president's own party - voted that sucker down. So now he's saying he'd like to break that bill into "bite sized pieces," snarkily claiming that the opposing party would then be able to understand it.

That's a sound bite into which any humor writer could joyously sink his or her teeth. You could point out that the president's own party failed to provide the needed Senate votes - possibly for precisely the reason that they did understand the proposed legislation (and the political suicide that would result from supporting its burdensome tax provisions) - but you wouldn't want to point that out at all. You wouldn't want to come across as a Tea Partier, or a business owner, or some kind of wealth-building (actual job creating) right-winger.

No, you need to pay attention to the vice president, who is campaiging hard for the president's bite-sized bills (bills, as in billions in spending) and is no stranger to the whole "bite" ideology. After all, when confronted by an opponent during the health reform debate a couple years ago, this is the same vice president who famously told that business owner to "bite me."

Maybe he thought he was hungry.

When this administration moved into town, I think the American people were indeed hungry for a return to a vibrant, growing economy. But after nearly three years of the dash toward socialism, well, now we're just hungry. So much so, in fact, that some of us are willing to consume whatever bite-sized chunks of whatever hopey-changey stuff the president and vice president decide to serve up.

But most of us have no appetite for the only dish listed in our current administration's cook book - it's a casserole of taxes, regulations, spiraling debt, massive spending, and redistribution of wealth. We're told it's yummy, especially one bite at a time... but America just no longer has the stomach for it.

It's not that we don't understand it... it's that now, after several months of economic indigestion, we do. Whether fed to us by the spoonful or the ever-ready shovel, America will no longer swallow the socialism. We want our free markets back! We want to feast on sweet, delicious prosperity once again.

Hard work is required to go from idea to profit.
