Gain Wealth Through Happiness

Inspirational Leaders Succeed Through Passion To Help Others When people visit casually about what's on their minds, especially in these days of dark turmoil on the global economic scene, if you listen to what they say you'll often get the idea that many people think they'd be happier with more money. Even people who have fairly stable economic situations tend to become fixated on money, and often these folks are playing the financial game at a very low level. They worry about credit card debt. They dream of upgrading to a better cabin on the next cruise ship they visit. They want to finally get that fence repaired out back.

These are normal hopes and dreams, typical of normal people leading normal lives. Nothing wrong with them! But the "wealth" game is one of developing a mindset of true abundance and fulfillment, and it is a bit different from the everyday money game.

I've mentioned it before: the philosophy to develop is one of "be, do, and have." You don't start by having what wealthy people have. You first have to adjust your mindset, and make a conscious choice to "be" a wealthy person living a life of true abundance. That mindset will lead you to "do" what wealthy people do, and then you will "have" what they have. Only if you do what others won't do will you have what others don't have.

But the most successful people focus a lot of time, energy, and attention on how they can make others happy and successful. That's often a key attitude for leaders to develop on their way to a mindset of true abundance. For years it's been my privilege to be an "executive coach to the stars" of the business world, and many of them seek to be better leaders. They want to cultivate their own inspirational leadership. And one of the first tips I can give my clients is to start with generosity. I don't mean sending money to charities (though that's a great idea), but to be generous with themselves - with their time, their attention, their wisdom, their patience.

It's funny: the wealthiest people are often the most generous. (Not always... there are some miserly money-grubbers out there who've managed to pile up some cash.) And the most generous wealthy people seem to be the happiest, and to spread the most joy (and abundance) to others.

There are two types of people: the Victim, and the Entrepreneur. Many Entrepreneurs own their own businesses; some don't, but instead practice their entrepreneurial initiatives in the employ of others. It's not business ownership that distinguishes the two types: it's a mindset of abundance. Entrepreneurs keep their optimism and joy even when business is "down." Victims are never happy, and more money won't change that.

We all have both types in us, but tend to lean toward one side or the other. So check yourself. How are you leaning? It might be time to perform what selling guru Zig Ziglar used to call a "checkup from the neck up," and make sure you're cultivating (and exhibiting) the right mindset for wealth and abundance. You can achieve anything. But if you are a happy, optimistic person, your path to prosperity will be easier to travel.

Re: The secret to happiness Re: The secret to happiness - Happiness comes from within. We choose whether we want to be happy or not. Circumstances can influence our feelings, but in the end, it's up to us how we deal with our circumstances, positively or negatively. I admire anyone who can stay strong and be happy through adversity. There will always be challenges that we face, but I believe that if we face them with our heads held high, the odds of overcoming them are much greater. This reminds me of the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness." Happiness spelled wrong for a reason. One of Will Smith's greatest movies. I encourage you all to watch it as it's very inspiring.

Re: The secret to happiness Re: The secret to happiness - [quote="barrysarner":2awy1urv]I agree and happiness is different for every individual.[/quote:2awy1urv] Happiness is something that comes from within each person it not something that we can find externally. Something from outside such as an exciting event or a new car can make us happy, but this is a fleeting emotion. True happiness is within each person if we choose to it over misery. MichelleJ
