Get The Facts And Fight The Smears!

Guest post by: Michael Hume

Article Overview: Well, guess what! It's campaign season again (like that ever ends), and we have a whole new snitch site: "AttackWatch.com," complete with Soviet-style black-and-red graphics, which asks us to "get the facts, fight the smears!" Otherwise, those non-liberals in the media (both of them) might convince some people to vote against the president's re-election....

Get The Facts And Fight The Smears!

Oh Wait: The Facts ARE The Smears Remember all the way back to 2008? The Green Bay Packers had yet to win their fourth Super Bowl, America still had a space program that actually sent people to space, and President Obama wasn't president yet. A lot has changed since then, but there are still some familiar things. Like "AttackWatch.com."

During the 2008 campaign, Senator Obama's team had enlisted an army of tech-savvy internet geeks to create web sites that would facilitate, well, snitching on the part of the candidate's supporters. One, the famous George Soros-funded "MediaMatters.com," is still with us today. The other, "FightTheSmears.com," was specific to the campaign. Both basically asked us to spy on our fellow Americans, and report any "smears" against Mr. Obama.

Well, guess what! It's campaign season again (like that ever ends), and we have a whole new snitch site: "AttackWatch.com," complete with Soviet-style black-and-red graphics, which asks us to "get the facts, fight the smears!" Otherwise, those non-liberals in the media (both of them) might convince some people to vote against the president's re-election!

The outpouring of love their candidate got three years ago seems to have been replaced by an outpouring of derision this time around. Some of my favorite "tweets" in response to the new site include these: "I saw a kid eating fries with his happy meal"... "I'd like to report my neighbor - Bob, for surreptitiously scraping the Obama sticker off the bumper of his Prius"... and "I saw 6 ATMs in an alley, killing a job. It looked like a hate crime!"

But my favorite was this one: "Will we be able to read this in the original German?"

Yes, this sort of spy-on-your-neighbors effort does have a little Hitler-youth flavor, doesn't it? No one is comparing the president to Hitler, to be sure, but his team's methods do make you wonder if they think he's running for a second Reich.

If I were to say "President Obama's campaign has launched a snitch web site!"... would that be a fact, or a smear... or both?

The problem, of course, is that the facts ARE the smears. Though his supporters surely wish otherwise, the president's record speaks for itself. You read the price of gas at the pump: smear! You hear about the monthly jobless report: smear! You learn about the first downgrade in the history of U.S. debt: smear! You watch your business go under or your wealth disappear: well, you get the idea.

Speaking for humor-fiction writers everywhere, I have to say, Mr. President, nobody's making stuff up to make you look bad. You beat us to every punchline. Ha ha ha! The joke, as they say, is on us.

Re: Is getting a formal education worthwhile for entrepreneu Re: Is getting a formal education worthwhile for entrepreneu - Knowledge in whatever form is valuable. Its not just about usefulness in the business that you plan to start. The knowledge that you gain via an education system definitely is not enough for an entrepreneur because Facts that you will face in your role as an entrepreneur will be much different than what you have learnt. But having an education will definitely equip you with getting the leads in handling situations. So my suggestion is that you continue with your studies and gain as much knowledge you can. You are already aware that the learnings you make can be applied on the Website. Same also applies for all your other learnings. The only thing is you will have to wait for the time to apply what you have learnt.
You don't need the new iPhone You don't need the new iPhone - [i:3jvapemj]I stole this article from a minimalist site. He has given everyone to steal his posts and use it anywhere at anytime and without giving credit to him.His name is Leo Babauta. So enjoy.[/i:3jvapemj] ................................................................................................................... Many of you have seen the video and reviews of the new iPhone 4S, and yes, it looks great. Don’t rush out to order it. Here’s why: you don’t need it. True, it is sleek and sexy and full of great features like a great camera and personal assistant and a better screen, etc. But you don’t need it today any more than you needed it yesterday, or 5 years ago. Yesterday, without the new iPhone, your life was good. Some of you were happy and content and were actually able to do your work and get on with your life without the new iPhone. Today, Apple announces its newest device, and the press and tech bloggers swoon. We all have to get the latest device, or we’ll no longer be hip, we’ll no longer be part of the “in” crowd. And yet, is it really that essential? I’ve wanted an iPhone for almost 5 years now, but haven’t bought one because I know I don’t need it. Will it make my life a bit more fun? Sure, possibly — but so will a walk in the park with my kids, or a hike with a friend, or a free book at the library. I don’t need to spend $199 plus thousands of dollars on a 2-year contract to make my life a bit more fun. Five years ago, the iPhone didn’t exist. It wasn’t a need in your life. You were able to live perfectly without it. And now that it does exist, all of that is true. It’s Apple’s marketing that has worked on us, and we’re fools for it. The same, of course, is true of all other technology and sleek consumerist products. It’s just that Apple is better at it than most. Don’t give in. Fight the marketing, by noticing and letting go of the urges that marketing creates in us. Find contentment without products. You’re better than that.
