Health Habits: Exercise Your Outside Options

Even Walking Can Bring Great Benefits Spring is still almost three weeks away in North America, but in much of the country, "cabin fever" is starting to bring humans back outdoors after months of hibernation. That's a good thing! Getting outside, even for a few minutes a day, can lift your spirits and aid your health and well-being.

Here in southern Colorado, where my home office is, I am still doing my morning workouts indoors. But I'm starting to look longingly at the basketball hoop out there in the driveway, and I know it's only a matter of time before I'll be able to get out there and work up a fun, enjoyable sweat trying to get the ball to drop through those elusive pieces of nylon netting.

Almost every morning, while I'm doing my workout, I see my neighbor take off from her house across the prairie for her nice, long walk. We're out in the country, where most of the roads are unpaved strips of flattened sand, and I know she can walk for miles if she wants to without coming to a ranchland fence. I don't know how far she walks, but she's out there getting some exercise every day. Good for her! And I mean that literally.

Exercise is one of the five CRUCIAL daily health habits which I call The NEWSS: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sleep, and Supplements. If you don't already have a handle on The NEWSS, you should take personal responsibility to get one. Simple changes in these five practices can make a big difference in your health! Eliminate the garbage from your diet... get outside and exercise until you work up a sweat... drink two liters of water... get your eight hours in the sack... and take at least one good nutritional supplement. Do these things every day, and your health (and mood) are sure to improve.

And if you can get outside to get your exercise, that's a great idea. Sure, it might be blizzarding wherever you are as you read this... but if it's sunny, the Vitamin D your body can absorb from the sunshine will do great things for your body.

There's no doubt that we're headed for tougher times. To survive and prosper, you need optimism and vitality. They are not optional! Optimism and vitality will be essential attributes for anyone who wants to weather the coming economic storm. So if you've been putting off that revitalization effort, whether it's a diet or an exercise program, don't put it off any longer.

Get outside. It'll make you a better person from the inside out.
