Inspirational leaders tend to take on tough challenges, and dare to tackle the world's most difficult problems. Because of that, and because human nature is what it is, a good leader is likely to step on some toes now and then. You might be doing everything right as a leader, and still be in a position to need to know how to calm an angry person.
Leadership is a rational, logical endeavor, to be sure. But inspirational leadership is also an emotional adventure. To inspire the best in others - to get them to give the effort their absolute best - you need to unlock their positive emotions, such as passion, dedication, and loyalty. But your efforts to do so might occasionally unleash the worst in others, and undesirable emotions such as anger will pop up once in a while.
Previously, we covered two important things to bear in mind when you need to calm an angry person. First, you have to reduce the emotional content of the interaction. Calm yourself, and then use your words (and, more importantly, your non-verbals) to calm the other person. Second, don't try to go too quickly toward rational interaction, such as joint problem-solving. Remember that it isn't the person talking, but the Anger Demon possessing him, and that the rational side of his brain isn't available until the anger clears away. For that reason, you can't take seriously (or personally) his very-personal-seeming attacks.
If you can be patient with the angry person, listen a lot, talk very little, and show some empathy, you can probably calm an angry person. One more thing to work on: do whatever it takes to "get on the same side of the table" as the other person. You need to demonstrate a sense of commonality with the angry person, and a sense that you're both in it together.
Non-verbals can be very powerful in this regard. Literally sit or stand on the same side as your counterpart of whatever physical object might be in the room - a table, a counter, whatever. Don't use body language that says "I'm running away," but don't use confrontational poses, either. Breathe deeply, and let them notice it. Make frequent eye contact, but don't let it be continuous. And when you speak, make sure your tone and words are soft, calm, and soothing.
At some point, you're going to have to address the content of the issue, but during the first few white-hot moments of anger, don't try that. Your whole job is just to calm the angry person, so that the Anger Demon can be exorcised (ventilated) and so that the rational side of your counterpart's brain can come back out to play. I've often said that "nothing will work," and that the more nothing you do, the better and faster it does work.
Most of the time, the angry person is angry at the situation, or the problem, and not really at you. On those rare occasions where you actually have made a mistake, or done something (however inadvertent) to cause the upset, you should apologize, early and earnestly. Even if you are not at fault, consider apologizing anyway. The words "I'm so sorry if I've done anything to offend you" have no cost, and can pay big dividends. Some of my clients can't bring themselves to apologize if they've done nothing wrong. That's fine. But they're leaving one easy solution on the table. Remember that nothing you say while the other person is possessed by the Anger Demon will be remembered in calmer times; they only really remember your attitude, your patience, and that you were willing to help.
Above all, don't let the possibility of occasionally angering people to discourage you from taking the chances you have to take to be a truly inspirational leader. For every time you stir anger, consider that you'll be stirring positive emotions many, many times as you go about your inspirational business. If you're serious about your mission, don't back down! Be an inspiration, and be good at knowing how to calm an angry person when you need to.

inlvolves people. To what extend is respect important?
When one thinks of himself alone, like me, me and me, how can respect
become real?
How many types of respect can we come up with?
I think of a few:
Respect of disagreement can be one. Then there is Respect of the Customer. Respect of position. Respect of 'Older Person'. By the
same token, Respect of the 'Younger ones'. etc.....

- Hey hey hey....Calm down. What you are forgetting and the press isnt taking into consideration the rise of entrepreneurship. Women arent leaving the workforce, they are starting their own workforces...
A few years ago I was president of the Canadian Association of Women Executives. I got a call from Global National who wanted a comment on the fact that women were leaving corporate Canada in droves....and what did I think about it......was it the glass ceiling etc..
Well, its because women are flocking to entrepreneurship but ladies, that doesnt make the news. the media is looking for information that will prove their 'the economy is in a slump'....
It simply isnt true. There are more women starting and running their own businesses than we've ever seen.
Dont forget that the media is out for the media and scare tactics and bad news gets the coverage....

Usable Service?
- Hi,
I have been sitting on an idea for quite some time, but I'm not sure how much demand this business will have. I've found that over the years, every organization that I have worked with, I have simplified work processes drastically, saving time and resources. (money).
I have talked to a good friend of mine who is a computer engineer who can setup unique company network systems to enhance sharing and security of information within an organization so that sensitive information is kept off of the world wide internet but can still be shared within. I've put together a very large list of my own ideas that I found worked wherever I went and feel that I can improve a businesses productivity by far and cut expenses with various changes to processes and have adopted a bunch of ideas from an IT Service Management Framework course that I have taken to create an office work flow that promotes efficiency.
My business would first run a survey to understand that nature of your business and then we would set an in person meeting/consultation based on the results of the survey if there seems to be a need for change. This would be done outside of normal business hours to avoid disruption to daily activities.
Once the consultation is complete, we will then begin training a small group and run a test environment to ensure there are no breaks in the processes before going live with them. Finally we will start periodic training sessions to transition all staff over to the new process.
This would roughly run about 1 week (or more) in length from the time of the survey completion to full transition and could be provided to departments or entire organizations.
My estimate to charge for such a service is:
Initial Need Survey: Free
In Person Consultation: $249/day estimating 1 day after regular working hours)
First group training: $249/day (estimating 1 day - during work hours)
Allow 2 days for test environment to work and look for glitches in process(No charge)
Fix processes if needed (No charge)
Final training: $249/day (onsite during work hours)
Total estimated days: 5 ($249 per day)
After the in person consultation, I will provide cost saving estimates based on the old work process compared to what I can change.
The way I see it is, if I can save an organization over $1000 per month, the service pays for itself in it's first month or two.
Off the top of my head, I can save an organization roughly 1 hour per week per person in productive time. If an office of 15 employees are paid an average of $16/hour, I can save the company about $240 in productive time per week plus whatever supply expenses that I can cut back on. My service can cost around $1,245 once but save a company over $12,000 after one year of adopting my practices.

I take my hat off to John for his commission plan to avoid steering. A rare but important quality, even when mandated. I speak from a real estate and financial Broker position
In as much as your seemed to be considering a franchise, or a business of your own, I offered some alternative thinking to which you have come back to me on. I didn't want your guessing about your future.

I am not a Franchise Person, I am a startup mentor, personal assessment, suitability, personal development, business, marketing and financial plans. In interviewing, I look for passion, interest and causes that a person is interested in. Like John we are seeking to match you where it fits
Few actually do what they love, they work for a paycheck. Doing something your love give you an edge on success, reduces your susceptibility to scams, unscrupulous vendors, etc.
However, not everyone has an entrepreneurship mindset, not everyone has a plan or can plan. Not everyone should be in business for themselves for any number of reasons, lack of discipline, structure, focus, skills, etc.
For those that have the capital needed, I see Franchises as great opportunity; they offer structure, plans, training etc., which is better than learning as you go and watching your capital drain away
Doing what your love is great, but is there a market for it, profitability as you said?
