Inspirational Leaders Lead In Giving Thanks
Take Personal Responsibility For Gratitude
It's Thanksgiving Day in America, once again. A tradition begun on the Atlantic shores of New England colonies and renewed in times of severe testing of our nation, this is a day to thank The Almighty for our many blessings.
If you seek to be an inspirational leader, try this: make every day a day of thanks giving. Don't be a showboat of humility, but do allow your gratitude for the many blessings in your life to be visible and transparent. And thank your people, all the time, every day.
Have you been more inspired in your life by humble, grateful people... or by arrogant people with an air of entitlement? Chances are, any inspiration you've received from entitled people has been accidental.
What are you thankful for? Make the effort to take an inventory.
Start with the nouns in your life for which you're thankful... the people, the places, the things. I am thankful for the blessings represented by my family, my friends, my colleagues, my coaches, and countless other people. I'm thankful for all the beautiful places I've been able to visit, and for the beauty of the places in which I live. And I'm thankful for my stuff... though it's never really the stuff that makes you happy, is it?
Then move on to the verbs. I'm thankful for everything I've been able to do, for everything my health and vitality allow me to do today, and for the opportunities I have to do things in the future. In America, a true land of opportunity, I have a lot to be especially thankful for. Where else can anyone start a business, any day of the week?
There are things in this world to fear and avoid, to detest and to resent. Sure. Things are shaky all over the globe, economically and politically, and in many other ways. But to paraphrase an American leader, there is nothing wrong in your life that can't be cured by what's right in your life.
Thank God for that.
