Mom! He Got More Than I Got!
Let's Make Things Fair, Even If We Bankrupt Everyone
You will always find "prosperity" after "progressivism." That is, if by "always find," you are referring to looking these two words up in the dictionary. In the real world, of course, it turns out to be just the opposite... and subversives in our culture, from those who own a business to those who support one-percenters like Mitt Romney, always seem to fall all over themselves pointing this out.
But that's just because they are stuck in the failed thinking of the past, and they just don't get the incredible awesomeness of the sort of progressivism favored by our president. These bitter clingers keep warning that our super-smart leaders can't make collective statism work; but they're only saying that because no one ever has.
We've had this "alternative minimum tax" in America for years, and it was sold as the "millionaire's tax" that would finally keep people from getting away with crazy capers like making a bunch of money and keeping it. The AMT was a step in the right direction, but the president knows we need to go further. So he's out campaign - er, inspiring support for a new surtax on the rich known affectionately as "The Buffet Rule."
The Buffet Rule is named for Warren Buffet, a bazillionaire who allegedly pays less tax than does his secretary, who only makes a few multiples of what you make but not nearly what Warren makes. Actually, Warren doesn't make any "income," per se... his earnings are all capital gains, which are taxed at a lower rate than is income, but that's not the point. And actually, Warren has an outstanding tax bill in the seven-figure-plus range that he's suing to keep from paying, but that's also not the point. And actually, if the president gets his Buffet Rule through the obstructionist Republican Congress, it'll only raise about five billion bucks (which would run the big-spending federal government for about nine hours, and do nothing to reduce our deficit), but that is ALSO not the point.
The point is fairness!
We are not potential millionaires or entrepreneurs. We are not capable of taking care of our basic daily needs, let alone building wealth. No. We are victims, brothers and sisters (especially you sisters)! There is only so much wealth out there, and as the president points out, it keeps going to the hard-working and successful show-offs in this evil one percent! So we need to take from the rich (making them the former rich) and give to Obama - I mean, of course, to us victims.
Warren may not like it (he hasn't said he does), but we need this Buffet Rule. It won't help anyone, but at least it'll be fair. We'll ALL be equally broke, and there will be no top one-percent (except the government). Now, THAT's logical problem-solving! You GO, Mr. Obama!
