Renewing Limited Government

A Century Of Progressivism Needs Correction The whole idea behind America is that, at least with regard to daily life in a temporal world, the people can rule themselves. The nation's founders, in establishing the framework for this great experiment (which is what it was, 235 years ago), realized that government would grow to fill all unguarded space in terms of power, and therefore they worked hard to set up a constitutional system of "limited" government.

The Constitution's Tenth Amendment, in fact, explicitly says that all powers not granted to the federal government are reserved to the states, and to the people. But the nation's current leaders govern as if this provision were never made. President Obama, in fact, is on record as disdaining the Constitution as a "charter of negative liberties," and seems bummed that the document is all about what he, as the leader of the federal government, can't do. Of course, that hasn't stopped him (see Obamacare), and he will have to be sued, opposed, and defeated in order to restore some slight tether to the original intent of our nation's founding.

The last president who governed as though he really believed in limited government was Ronald Reagan. He began his first term by clearly stating that government was not the solution to the problems facing America, but rather that government was the problem. And he realized that every inch of power-space absorbed by the government reduces freedom for Americans, shrinks the private sector, starves opportunity, and makes it harder (and less desirable) to provide the fuel for liberty by doing things like starting a business or growing wealth.

The time is now to renew a true dedication to authentically limited government. The Balanced Budget Amendment currently contemplated (and supported by the people, as personified by the grass-roots tea party movement) would be a good start. If the government were not allowed to live beyond its means, liberty would expand, opportunity would soar, people would be inspired, and the economy would roar.

You need look no further than Reagan's tax cut programs of the 1980s to see the magical effects of limited government. Along with slashing business-hobbling regulations, Reagan cut taxes for everyone, and was roundly criticized as "economists" predicted a sharp decline in government revenues. In fact, over the next several years, the program created millions of new tax PAYERS, and federal revenues climbed to new record heights. Again criticized for the high spending he allowed, Reagan nevertheless used much of the proceeds of his economic programs to dramatically out-spend the Soviets in military resources, making America stronger than it's ever been and ending the Cold War without bloodshed.

Reagan knew what the next president needs to figure out, and quickly: limit the government, and you unleash the greatest earthly power ever known to man - the innovation, industry, and inspiration of an American population enjoying the blessings of a free market, and a free society.

Re: Can someone explain Search engine optimization to me? Re: Can someone explain Search engine optimization to me? - Hi, Ask yourself, "What is the goal of a search engine like Google?" A search engine's goal is to provide the most related (or best) web page results when someone searches. Do you think people are searching for "Auction Cars Government" or "Government Car Auction." In fact type those keywords into Google with the quotation marks. You will find that Google gives different results for each keyword phrases. Granted you get many of the web pages ranking the same but there is a difference. My answer is, use "Government Car Auction" or even "Government Seized Car Auction" because that is what people are searching for. That is how the majority of the indexed pages use. That is what makes sense when you read the phrase. Jeff

Let the market correct itself. There is no reason for the Government to bail everyone out. If the businesses, mainly banks, weren't corrupted with greed, this wouldn't have happened. They are and it did, so let them dwindle away and pay for their mistakes. That's what any small business has to do. Why should they be any different. They have gotten away with it for over 10 years! Surely they should have seen this coming. [/quote:1q4mpk8g][/quote:1q4mpk8g] The same thing happened in the early 30's that's why the law to prevent these practices was put in place. But, during the Clinton administration people decided that eliminating that law would boost the economy - once again, that didn't work. Kind of reminds you of the saying that people who don't consider history are bound to repeat it. Chris
