The Wiener That Ate New York!
Really, Mr. Congressman? Seriously?
OK, get this: about a year ago, a congressman from New York named Anthony Wiener (really) was bringing the full power of his office to bear in investigating and lambasting conservative media personality Glenn Beck. That's OK, Wiener is a liberal Democrat, and that's what they do. But it was interesting to watch the way Wiener attacked Beck: he alleged that, because one of Beck's biggest commercial sponsors was a company that sells gold, Beck was complicit in "scamming" people into investing all their money in something as foolish as gold. Bad for the stock market! Bad for investors! They'll lose all their money! Or something like that.
Those poor saps who got sucked into Beck's nefarious plot last year have been duped out of the proceeds from a stagnant stock market, and have been led down a dangerous path by which they've just about doubled their money.
As gold climbed higher, Wiener laid lower. He was all about this outrage last year, but hasn't had much to say about it since about last August.
In the meantime, another New York congressman, Republican Chris Lee, did a bad and stupid thing: he pulled something of a Brett Favre, emailing topless photos of himself to women he'd met online (women who were not, as it turns out, Mrs. Chris Lee). Lee must've known he'd be caught, and once he was, he resigned in, like, six seconds. In the ensuing special election, the Democrats took his seat, crowing about how the loss was a symbolic but overwhelming indictment of the evil Republicans' plot to destroy America through such dastardly schemes as spending cuts, debt reduction, entrepreneurship, and entitlement reform.
Yay! Good day for Wiener, and his liberal ilk! The spending, borrowing, and unsustainable public benefits would once again flow like The Mighty Mississipp'!
But wait: what's this? Turns out Wiener, who just last summer found time in his hectic Beck-bashing schedule to marry a young protege of Hillary Clinton's, has been sending tawdry self-portraits over the internet to various OTHER young women, such as a college girl in Seattle.
Really? Seriously, Congressman?
You would think he'd immediately resign, like Lee - but Wiener's not a Republican, so he feels he's done nothing wrong, and won't quit. You'd think he'd take full responsibility for his own actions - and he said he would - but he also implied that the recipients of his lewd photos were also somehow a little bit to blame. And you'd think he'd own up immediately - but he first held expensive press conferences (which you paid for) for about a week-and-a-half claiming his online account had been hacked and none of this was his fault.
As a conservative, I hope he stays. I hope the liberal party in America continues to be populated by two-faced, shameless Wieners. It makes the contrast more clear. And, in terms of having someone to poke fun at, you gotta say this for him: Wiener is worth his weight in (still skyrocketing) gold.
