There's Still Inspiration Out There

Guest post by: Michael Hume

Article Overview: As often as you can, surround yourself with entrepreneurs. Recharge the positive side of your personal battery. That energy will help you when you need to bring the best out of people who, for whatever reason, can't seem to see the good around them. There's Still Inspiration Out There

Be The Kind Of Leader Who Looks For It

I spent Saturday in the company of inspiring people, and I wish everyone could often have that experience. I was in a room filled with dozens of people, and every one of them was an entrepreneur, braving the adversity of today's crumbling economy to run a business... a business each could call his own.

Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. In ancient times, the tribe was supported by the hunters and gatherers. Today, it's the small business owner who fills the role of hunter/gatherer, providing goods and services (and employment) for themselves, and for others. And every day you're in business for yourself, it can seem like the cards are stacked against you.

You can be squeezed between customers and suppliers... your employees sometimes act as though your highest purpose is to provide them with money and benefits... the government and the bank always seem to want more than their share of your earnings... and your own family can turn on you, often wondering aloud when you're going to get a "real" job.

So the entrepreneur has to be driven by something other than what drives the typical "employed" person. It's usually a vision. An inspiration. A thought something like this: "Hey, somebody should provide X... why not me?" And the rewards, though often slow in coming, are great. You work for yourself - no one else gets the credit, no one else gets the blame - and you've created an enterprise all your own. You've literally made something out of nothing.

So when you're in the company of entrepreneurs, like I was this weekend, it can be refreshing. You're not surrounded by depressing and plaintive murmurings, but by optimism-filled conversations. Everyone around you is a dreamer, not a naysayer. The usual complainers you meet every day would say these folks lack realism - and they'd be right. Entrepreneurs tend not to see the world as it is (despite constant reminders), but as it ought to be... and they then go out and make the world closer to that ideal they've envisioned.

Whether you own your own business, or you're in the service of others, be the kind of leader who seeks out - and finds - the inspiration out there. As often as you can, surround yourself with entrepreneurs. Recharge the positive side of your personal battery. That energy will help you when you need to bring the best out of people who, for whatever reason, can't seem to see the good around them. And bringing out the best of such people is a big part of what inspirational leadership is all about.

Describe Your Inspiration/Motivation Describe Your Inspiration/Motivation - I'd like to open up discussion with the group to identify how us entrepreneurs keep you goals insight without loosing Inspiration for what got you going initially. Being an Entrepreneur can be a lonely road at times and I'd like to dig up and have people describe the fire they hold inside. I'm hoping that through this exercise I can acknowledge and become aware of my fire that I'm having trouble verbalizing.
Re: What inspires you? Re: What inspires you? - Inspiration is nothing it is what you called to do? Some work for money, some work for satisfaction, some work because they have priorities in life. It is the passion to do something for achievement or to show that you can do it by using one's talent. I know there are people who are doing great things with their limited skill sets. So, my view point about inspiration is to Dream Big and try to achieve it. I would rather add "Listen to your self". Listen to Inner guide and follow it. You will reach great heights. Robert
