What Role Should The Government Be Playing In Health Care?

Protect Your Vitality By Refreshing Your Health Habits What role should the government be playing in health care?

The answer depends upon your ideologic view toward the government in general... what role should the government be playing in ANY aspect of our day-to-day lives?

On the Left, the general belief is that government should play a heavy role in health care. All members of society, they argue, should have access to exactly the same level of medical care, regardless of achievement or station. To assure this outcome, the government must control health care. This philosophy gave rise to such nationalized medical programs as collectivist health care in the old Soviet Union and communist China, the National Institute of Health in the United Kingdom, and "Obamacare" in the United States. The Left points to abuses by private insurers and doctors as support for their basic preference for heavy state control of health care.

Folks on the Right have a very different belief. To them, government should keep its hands off the medical industry, and free-market solutions should prevail. They point to the failures of collectivist medicine (wherever its been tried) as support for the notion that less is more in terms of government takeover of medical care. If left unfettered, they argue, the free market would generate the most high-quality medical care for the highest percentage of the population.

Before last year's "Obamacare" legislation, America's health care system needed help. Abuses were evident everywhere from insurers to providers. But I tend to side with the Right here... the less the government intervenes in something like health care, the better things are. Instead of government takeover, what the health care industry really needed was reduced regulation; if people were free to buy health insurance across state lines, for instance, the free market incentives which make capitalism so powerful would give rise to vendors whose market niche is precisely to compete with low- or poor-service providers. Without those incentives (which disappear under collectivist control), everyone gets the same health care, sure... but it's the same low-quality health care replete with impossible surgical waiting lists and poor, low-cost solutions to which there are no alternatives.

The collectivists have grabbed control in virtually every society on the planet, though, so until things change, we're left with a general downward slide toward state medicine. Look for a brain drain (meaning, a shortage of well-prepared doctors), a slow-to-stagnant effort in pharmaceutical research and development, lines so long for surgery that patients die while waiting, and a general shortage of quality medical care.

To protect yourself, take personal responsibility for renewing your daily health habits. The five most important are the ones I call "The NEWSS" - Nutrition (start by eliminating processed garbage from your diet), Exercise (get your heart rate up at least three times a week), Water (drink two liters every day), Sleep (get your eight hours), and Supplements (take at least one good multi-vitamin every day).

The government is geared to take as much control of your health care as it can, even though your care will be better the less government intervenes. So don't rely on government health care. Take personal responsibility for your own vitality, and reduce your dependence on the government's role in medical care. Your discipline in your own daily health habits is the most important factor (by far) in the future of your own personal vitality.

Willing to Fail Your Way to Success Willing to Fail Your Way to Success - Entrepreneurs in my opinion, must be willing to fail. (This is that risk-taking factor quoted in the other post). If you aren't willing to fail then you don't take risks and if you don't take risks you do I like to call (I am qouting an awesome book called Play to Win!) 'Playing Not to Lose' instead of 'Playing to Win'. When you Play to Win you must risks. Risks are how you build a business and innovate.
Re: Can someone explain Search engine optimization to me? Re: Can someone explain Search engine optimization to me? - Hi, Ask yourself, "What is the goal of a search engine like Google?" A search engine's goal is to provide the most related (or best) web page results when someone searches. Do you think people are searching for "Auction Cars Government" or "Government Car Auction." In fact type those keywords into Google with the quotation marks. You will find that Google gives different results for each keyword phrases. Granted you get many of the web pages ranking the same but there is a difference. My answer is, use "Government Car Auction" or even "Government Seized Car Auction" because that is what people are searching for. That is how the majority of the indexed pages use. That is what makes sense when you read the phrase. Jeff
Re: Are Economic Recessions Good for Franchising? Re: Are Economic Recessions Good for Franchising? - All we can do is remain wide awake and pay attention to the ebb and flow. My strategy is to be prepared and go with the flow. There could be some rough times ahead... Interestingly, our business has remained strong. I believe it's because we're in such a tight little niche and we're well positioned to sign jobs nationwide, therefore we're not restricted to location. We also target affluent markets that have higher disposable incomes - this we do locally. Here are some Franchise Categories that could weather a good recession... Re: Obama Wants Social Security for Illegals Re: Obama Wants Social Security for Illegals - [quote="Alan Mater":1q4mpk8g][quote:1q4mpk8g] This is what happens when the Government gets involved and puts its nose where it shouldn't. Let the market correct itself. There is no reason for the Government to bail everyone out. If the businesses, mainly banks, weren't corrupted with greed, this wouldn't have happened. They are and it did, so let them dwindle away and pay for their mistakes. That's what any small business has to do. Why should they be any different. They have gotten away with it for over 10 years! Surely they should have seen this coming. [/quote:1q4mpk8g][/quote:1q4mpk8g] The same thing happened in the early 30's that's why the law to prevent these practices was put in place. But, during the Clinton administration people decided that eliminating that law would boost the economy - once again, that didn't work. Kind of reminds you of the saying that people who don't consider history are bound to repeat it. Chris
