Your Mindset Drives Your Vitality

A General Sense Of Well-Being Is Critical You've heard the same stories I've heard, of people who overcame physical limitations, or even beat diseases, in a way that seems miraculous. Personally, I would not bet against a divine intervention in these cases. But you can't help but notice that people who beat long odds are almost always those who cultivate in themselves an attitude of optimism, a positive spirit, and an expectation of success.

How's your health these days? Are you feeling good? Got energy? If not, you need to take personal responsibility for making the kind of crucial improvement in your life that can only come from revitalization. Start with the five key daily health habits I call The NEWSS: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sleep, and Supplements. Stop eating junk... get your heart rate up to a good aerobic level 4-5 times a week... drink two liters of water every day... get your eight hours in the sack... and take at least one good supplement every day. Do this for three weeks and see if you don't experience a noticeable revitalization.

You want to create a "virtuous cycle" in your life, and in your personal vitality. If you discipline yourself to improve The NEWSS habits every day for three weeks, you won't be able to avoid an improvement in your general sense of well-being. And once you feel better about yourself and your vitality, you'll find it hard to resist doing even better with your health habits in the following three weeks. This will increase your feeling of well-being... this will motivate more positive changes... and that's EXACTLY the sort of pattern you want to create in your life.

Where do you start? There have been a number of studies which have identified differences in personality, but I know of no research which can tell you with certainty whether you'll be more successful starting with a change in mindset or a change in daily behavior. That said, I have a theory I've mentioned in previous pieces which I think is useful. The dimension of your personality dealing with "attention" will determine a likely starting point for a program of improvement.

Check yourself: if you are a practical, here-and-now person who likes facts and data, who loves to measure things, who doesn't trust information that doesn't come from your own five senses and who relishes the discipline of continuous improvement, you have a better chance if you start with a list of daily health habits and simply plow through that list every day for three weeks. Your mindset will improve, following your daily behaviors. About a third of adults lean toward this approach. If, on the other hand, you are more of an imaginative future-oriented person who likes theories, who loves to come up with new ideas, who trusts your own instincts or "sixth sense" and who relishes the chance to "design" programs, you're probably better off starting by doing whatever it takes to self-coach a change in your mindset. You'll find your daily habits improve, driven by this new "inspiration" in your mind. And you won't be alone - about two-thirds of adults prefer this approach.

Since all of us are really a mix of these two "types" (typically leaning to one style or the other), it's a good bet that a person serious about improving her vitality and sense of well-being will start with a little of both: a few small changes in her daily habits, and a little self-coaching and "visioning" on her mindset.

So take a little time out each day (even if it's only 2-3 minutes) to re-affirm a couple of things. Affirm that you deserve to be a healthy, vital person and that you have that sort of lifestyle within your reach. And don't forget to express gratitude to your Maker for the gifts and blessings in your life. But don't spend your whole day dreaming of a more energetic life. Most people who don't have a good sense of personal well-being are anxious and worried, either about one big thing or about a host of troubles. Know this: the ONLY prescription for the disease of worry is ACTION. Work on your mindset, coach yourself, envision a healthier you... but then get off that couch and do something, every day, that can help you drive yourself toward your new reality.

It sounds simple: if you feel well, you'll be well. And it really isn't more complicated than that. The difficult part comes in prioritizing your own vitality within the constraints of your busy modern life, in avoiding distraction and depression, and in cultivating a true sense of well-being that you won't want to relinquish at any cost. But you can do it. People with fewer advantages overcome greater obstacles every day.

WHAT IN THE HECK IS THIS, I asked myself when I read that. Women are the fastest growing business owners in the US and Canada, there are t housands of women executives and CEOs - though not as many as might be expected, admittedly, yet the book opens with this surely out of date stereotype. However, as she continued to give examples of women who had high paying jobs but were routinely not paid as much as men because it hadn't occurred to them to ask for raises, etc., I decided it was probably true for a majority of businesswomen... Anyway, more of the info from the jacket: "Other books have told you how to get what you want by being more like a guy. Focus Brings Long Term Results Focus Brings Long Term Results - Over the past 2 years of venturing out and running my own business and not working full-time in a job I have tried numerous business opportunities. I have tried businesses in providing student accommodation, share trading and options, renting and selling paddles to dragon boat clubs and selling toilet odour eliminator products online. This was opportunistic thinking and diminished my efforts as I got started by adding more work rather than focusing on one business. It was all very tempting to try and run them at the same time to see which one would take off. Unfortunately there was no focus and when times got tough I jumped across to work on the business that interested me more. Opportunistic Thinking Is Bad If you are like me and see that everything is possible and always keeping an open mind about business ideas, then you will find it irresistible to try new ideas. Trust me I’ve learnt the hard way. So how have I changed this? I’m a huge fan of Yaro Starak’s blog - entrepreneurs-journey.com and one day he wrote a post about his coach Rich Schefren who was launching a new coaching program. As usual most internet marketers have a system to launch their new products and give away a lot of free quality information that can be applied straight away. They do this so they can build rapport with you and show that their information is useful before they start their sales pitch on you. As I knew the information was free and they just wanted my email address, I downloaded Rich’s eBook, the “Internet Manifesto“. If you haven’t read it, I would recommend you get a copy of it immediately. The Change in Mindset After reading the “Internet Manifesto”, I had a profound moment that I would change the way I operate my business. My mindset went from “thinking opportunistic” to “thinking strategically” meaning if I wanted to build a long term business I would have to set up the right systems and hire staff to leverage my time. I realised that I couldn’t do everything myself. Rich’s famous flowchart accurately shows how most Solo Enterpreneurs run their Internet Businesseses today. (I’m one of them and have taken action to outsource a lot of my work since then) Rich Schefren's Internet Manifesto Since then I have taken action to sell my businesses that are not part of my goals and made a mental decision to not start new business opportunities. Focus Is Key Since I was compelled to find out more, I downloaded the rest of Rich’s series of books which are listed below: 1. Internet Manifesto 2. The Missing Chapter 3. The Final Chapter 4. Attention Age Doctrine Part 2 5. Maven Matrix Manifesto 6. The Entrepreneurial Emergency Through this series I learned that I needed to focus on one task at a time, not five at a time (today’s generation calls it multi-tasking). Making that shift helped me improve time efficiency and also get tasks completed that generated more money. Additionally, you need to use your strengths to focus on a task and learn to outsource the rest that you are not good at. This is the key to long-term success in any business.
