If you are looking for a way to save money on shipping small packages here is a tip. FedEx and UPS service many points next day guaranteed with their low cost Ground Service. So, why pay for next day air service on a package you need to be delivered tomorrow at double or triple the cost? For example, from our food fulfillment warehouse in eastern PA, FedEx will service anywhere from New York City down to Washington DC next day with their ground service. There is no need for us to EVER pay for next day air to any of those points. Similarly, FedEx Ground is just a 2 day service to Chicago and most of the Midwest. Again, as a more cost effective option compared to Second Day Air, Ground is a better choice.

Check out the FedEx.com site to calculate transit time from your location to where your package is going.

To illustrate, online ecommerce business and artisanal sausage retailer Sausage Obsession reduced their shipping costs by over 50% when they began shipping products Ground instead of Next Day Air. The handmade sausage products Sausage Obsession sells are all shipped fresh or frozen. Obviously getting the customer orders shipped from their order fulfillment operation has to be done quickly and reliably. With the same type of packaging and amount of dry ice they were using before, Sausage Obsession is now able to service all their customers half way across the country without paying for expensive Next Day Air delivery.

Re: Broken delivery guarantees Re: Broken delivery guarantees - Well just as an update, the package finally arrived on September 4th, which means the FedEx "Overnight Standard Delivery" turned out to take 4 days! I decided to just keep the order since it caused so much trouble. Moreover, I don't want to have to deal with FedEx again to return the parcel back to the vendor.
Ebay: System and method Ebay: System and method - [quote:1y2ddln3]Unless you wanna spend hours packing your products and run everyday to FedEx to ship them, I would not recomment an ebay business [/quote:1y2ddln3] You don't have to run every day to FedEx...if you have that much volume, let Fed Ex come to you! Yes they charge a fee but it saves you time, wear and tear on your car, and cost of gas. Also, rather than do this every day, set aside one day, for example a Friday, and pack everything on that day and ship it out. If you've got the correct-sized boxes and appropriate packing material, it shouldn't take that long to do. Just specify in your ads that winning bids are shipped on the next Friday, so your customers know what's going on, and you should have no hassles.
Broken delivery guarantees Broken delivery guarantees - Hi Everyone, I recently had a bad online purchasing experience due delivery problems. A tennis retailer I ordered from had used FedEx's Standard Overnight shipping to try and deliver my package to my friend's place in NY on Friday, August 29th. However, since my friend was at work and the condo doorman was perhaps on a break, FedEx brought it back to their depot. Keep in mind that I was only in NY for the long weekend, so I wouldn't even be able to get my order when they try to make a 2nd delivery attempt. So what's the point of calling it "Overnight delivery" when I didn't end up getting my package the next day? Most residential addresses won't have anyone at home to accept parcels because everyone is at work, so why even bother trying to deliver something during the day if you can't leave it there? And get this, FedEx then tries to deliver the goods again on Tues, Sept 2nd but reports it's the "incorrect address" and there's no such place. But then how come they found condo on Aug 29th? My order was just shipping in their depot on Sept 3rd and according to their online tracking, it's supposed to be delivered sometime today on Sept 4th. We'll see. FedEx's Overnight shipping has turned into 3+ days shipping. What would you do? I was so infuriated that I wanted to just cancel the order and ask FedEx to return it back to the retailer. I've never had any of these sort of problems with UPS.
Re: How To Stay Motivated In Your Business Re: How To Stay Motivated In Your Business - Whether you think you can or think you can't, you are correct. Having the right mindset is critical to being a successful entrepreneur. Kicking the dead horse one more time:::: Write down your goals. And then READ THEM!! I find that most people don't write them down, and of those that do, hardly any read them later. When you are most motivated is usually in the beginning of your project, so write down your goals then. When feeling down, go back and read those goals, this will get you motivated and make you remember why you started your venture. .
Speaking of shipping.... Speaking of shipping.... - The US Post Office raised its rates a few months ago, and it's rates for magazines has trebled, I believe, which is going to drive the small press magazine publisher out of business... Anyone deal with shippig on a regular basis, and what do you use? Your in-country regular postal service FedEx UPS DHL Freight carriers and what are your experiences with each one?
