For entrepreneurs on a tight budget, new “Free Consultation Hub” could be a valuable resource

Guest post by: J Michael Mangalam

Article Overview: The new service is ParetoCentral.com, which is a "free consultation hub" connecting entrepreneurs and consultants. Clients (Entrepreneurs/Startup execs) post requests for a free, confidential consultation and Consultants respond with their qualifications and availability. This gives Clients immediate access to experienced professionals – typically, professional consultants or business executives – to help them solve a specific problem that requires immediate attention. For the Consultant, he or she is able to network with Clients, while building a reputation as a trusted and valued resource. The free consultation could lead to paid project, full-time employment or a recommendation for future business.

For entrepreneurs on a tight budget, new “Free Consultation Hub” could be a valuable resource

As an entrepreneur, you probably have core expertise in a couple of functional disciplines - say, Marketing or Software Architecture. These core skills most likely make up the foundation of your new company. However, any new company needs other skills to achieve a well-rounded business presence. How do you fill them under your tight budget conditions?

ParetoCentral.com is a Free Consultation Hub established with entrepreneurs like you in mind. You can post a "Free Consultation Request" at ParetoCentral.com, specifying your immediate need (Marketing advice, HR advice, business development advice, etc). You will receive a responses from a subset of 12,000 (and growing) expert consultants at ParetoCentral.com. You decide from whom to accept free consultations and then continue on to free confidential consultations with each of them over the phone or by similar means.

What do the consultants get in return? First of all, free consultations could lead to a compensated consulting project (cash or equity-based) or a business referral in the future. Also, a good "feedback" from you will give them more credibility at the site.

ParetoCentral.com's name comes from the Pareto Principle or the 80/20 rule, which says 80% of outcomes come from 20% of the influencers. ParetoCentral.com wants to elevate the visibility of 20%, or the top talent at the site, through the power of feedbacks.

Currently, one can now post a "Free Consultation Request" at ParetoCentral.com at no cost. The company plans to charge a "posting fee" at a later time to be the main source of revenue for the company.

No such service exists in the market currently, and market research has indicated a high degree of acceptance of such as service. Founder/CEO Joju Mangalam notes: "Two years ago, I was working at a well-known, major internet company during a large-scale layoff. Even though I was not affected, I knew quite a few employees who were. When I talked to them, I realized many were in a quandary on what to do next. Some did not want to go back to a full-time job, only to deal with office politics and the daily grind. They wanted flexibility of their time and the ability to work on things that interest them. Remarkably, most of them were senior-level or mid-level managers.

"This is a common issue as an increasing number of baby boomers are looking to semi-retire and millions of young mothers are trying to balance family life with a career. I looked at the marketplace and did not find a good alternative for these individuals to showcase their talent and get consulting work. This led me to create ParetoCentral.com."

After couple of business model changes, the site has evolved to become a Free Consultation Hub that connects prospective clients with consultants.

While the service is designed with entrepreneurs and small businesses in mind, it can help larger companies as well. For example, a staff member in such a company may be unable to carry out a task because he or she lacks expertise in a specific area. A long budget approval process could make it hard to hire an on-demand consultant. Instead, the employee can post a "free consultation request" at ParetoCentral.com and get immediate responses from qualified consultants who can provide their expertise free of charge, enabling this individual to complete the task without delay.

Or, the company could be looking to hire a consultant sometime in the future and has a short list of consultants from its experience using ParetoCentral.com. This shaves valuable time and mitigates the risk of hiring a consultant that is not a good fit.

As mentioned earlier, for the expert, he or she is able to network with corporate executives and fellow consultants, while building a reputation as a trusted and valued resource. Of course, there's the possibility that the free consultation could lead to paid project, full-time employment or a recommendation for future business.

We encourage you to check out ParetoCentral.com for your consulting needs.

Re: Promote Websites You Don't Own! Re: Promote Websites You Don't Own! - For most new small businesses jumping into online marketing for the first time I would steer clear of PPC advertising. For a while at least. Without a decent understanding of how search works and the whole PPC thing, including quality score, split testing of ad copy and landing pages, negative keywords, etc., you burn through your money pretty quick while trying to just learn and often end up with a deeply negative return on investment. Instead I would maybe spend that part of the budget on doing more of some of the other things you mentioned. Maybe buy another directory link or two. Another press release. More local offline advertising. Save the PPC for when the budget is not quite so tight and those other marketing efforts are already bringing in business. You can then better afford the learning curve costs and time required to get it right, and most importantly get it profitable.
Simple way to avoid Cold Calling Simple way to avoid Cold Calling - Gary, A chiropractor I work with hates cold calling (me too!) and he uses a technique to warm people up to using his services - it's so simple! In Sales your dealing with 3 pools of people: 1. Strangers 2. Prospects 3. Returning Customers You need to move people from one pool to the next. We'll concentrate on #1 and #2 as it's most relevant to your question. My Clients does the following (you just have to tailor it to your situation - be creative). My Client (we'll call him Bob) Bob leverages his time and resources to only get people that need his offer (pain relief) to put their hand up. Dealing with Strangers can get expensive and they don't like to be told what to do as they have no trust or relationship built with him. So to get Strangers to put their hands up he writes up an offer with a free report on a particular pain relief - let's say lower back pain (note: he can simply just change lower back pain to neck pain and have a new report). and uses multiple marketing vehicles to promote the Free report - magazines, newspaper, forums, postcards, private clinics etc. The only people picking up this information are the very people Bob would like as customers as they have Lower back pain. Bob's Free report ends with him stating his services and includes a Free in-house Consultation with no obligation. You'd be surprised at how easily Bob converts Strangers into Prospects. Note: They become prospects when they ask for the Free Guide and in exchange provide their contact details. This gives Bob unlimited opportunity to contact them for the Free in-house consultation with no obligation to continue using him. At this stage Bob's ability to close the sale lies in his office providing good customer service, Bob's ability to help the prospect and provide value at the free in-house consultation. Notice, he hasn't had to pick up the phone to COLD-CALL his Stranger pool or his Prospect pool. Hope that example helps to increase your prospecting!
Setting a Budget For Professional Development Setting a Budget For Professional Development - Hi Louis - I think a big challenge is that many entrepreneurs don't set a budget for professional development. It's usually something companies will look at as they hire people and use as a staff retention & development tool but it's not usually the case that you'll find an entrepreneur sets a professional development budget for themselves.
Re: How do you budget your life? Re: How do you budget your life? - Why Budget? Here are twelve good reasons: A budget is a guide that tells you whether you're going in the direction you want to be headed in financially. You may have goals and dreams but if you don't set up guidelines for reaching them and you don't measure your progress , you may end up going so far in the wrong direction you can never make it back. Can you imagine the government or a major corporation operating without a budget? No, and neither should you. A budget can help you meet your savings goals. It includes a mechanism for setting aside money for savings and investments... A budget helps your entire family focus on... A budget can keep you out of debt or help you get out of debt. A budget actually creates extra money for you to use on things that matter to you. A budget helps you sleep better at night because you don't lie awake worrying about how you're going to make ends meet.........................
