Some marketers know how to write good content, but then make the
mistake of not doing enough with it. Every article you write has the
potential to do so much more for you in building your on-line
reputation, establishing your credibility and bringing qualified traffic
to your Web site.
Start by identifying the top 10 problems in
your clients' life; and then writing an article for each. Now let's look
at a systematic approach to use each of these articles to boost your
on-line presence. I'll tell you what to do, although you might have to
talk to your webmaster or IT folks on how exactly to do some of these
things.
1. Publish it directly.
Take one article a month, and publish it in the two obvious places first: Your e-mail newsletter and your blog.
You
don't have to publish it in both places at the same time. If you
stagger them, say, about a week apart, the people who subscribe to both
the blog and newsletter don't get the same content twice on the same
day.
Extra bonus points if you also publish the article to an article directory, like EzineArticles.com.
2. Automatically publish it to social media platforms.
You
can set up your blog so that every new blog post goes to Twitter and
Facebook (Use the simple Twitter-feed.com service to set this up). You
can also connect LinkedIn to Twitter, so your blog posts also appear
automatically on your LinkedIn page.
This won't necessarily be everything you choose to do on these social media platforms. But it's a good start, and at least gives you a presence there once a month.
3. Turn it into audio and video form.
Read the article out loud, record it as an audio file, and publish it to your podcast.
Also turn on your webcam, record yourself explaining the article to camera, and publish it to YouTube as a video.
4. Compile it into a special report.
The first three steps above have given you an entire year's worth of content. But we're not done yet...
The
next step is to take a handful of the articles and combine them into a
special report called, say, "The Seven Biggest Mistake Business Owners
Make With Their Web Site", or "The Five Essential Keys to a Persuasive
Presentation", or whatever.
Write this in Word or Pages, save it as PDF, and give it away to as many people as possible.
5. Deliver presentations.
Take
the content of the report and present a webinar every three months on
that topic ("The Seven Biggest Mistakes", etc.). This is not the same
content as your regular training programs; this is a promotional webinar
you use as a marketing tool.
You can also create mini-presentations of each article, and upload them as slide shows to SlideShare.net.
Whew - that's it (for starters, at least)!
If
you diligently follow all these steps, you'll find that you have
created a full year's worth of content for your newsletter, blog,
podcast, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Slideshare! Not to
mention a powerful special report that's being passed around the
Internet; and you're running regular promotional webinars for even more
marketing.
So what are you waiting for?
I know I've
glossed over the technical details of some of these tasks. But it's the
principle you need to embrace first. The technical stuff is (relatively)
easy, once you get started.
