What Should My Podcast Intro Say and How Do I Use It?

Every professional sounding podcast will need both an Intro and an Outro as part of the whole package. The good news is, you only have to create these once and then they can be used over and over again with each podcast you create.

The main piece of both your intro and outro is the underlying music. This is the fun part! You get to choose some piece of music that fits your theme and catches the attention of your listener, yet isn’t overwhelming or obnoxious.

My favourite place to find royalty-free music is at StockMusic.net The tracks here are not free, but they are very reasonably priced. You can search for your music by keyword, genre, mood, instrument, and more. Once you find a few that might fit the feel of your podcast just listen to the clips and choose the one that works the best.

Next you can record your introduction and your closing remarks, and in the end combine each with the music you’ve chosen to create two separate audio clips: one Intro and one Outro.

Now the next time you record a new podcast all you have to think about is the content, and when you're happy with that simply tack on your Intro at the beginning and your Outro at the end and voila! One complete and professional sounding podcast.

You might be thinking, “That’s great, SMac, but what the heck should my Intro say?”

Basically now is your chance to introduce yourself and/or your small business to the listener, and you want to do it now at the very beginning so that you can reinforce your brand and let the listener know, without a doubt, exactly who and what they are listening to. And remember, in order to maintain business efficiency it has to be generic enough that it can be used with every single podcast that you create.

So, here are some important pieces that you should think of including in your recorded Intro:

Try to keep it short and sweet and yet at the same time make sure to provide all the necessary information so that folks know who you are, what you’re providing, and how they can find out more.

My name is Sarah MacGregor a.k.a. SMac and I am a Canadian Virtual Assistant, CEO of SMac To The Rescue, and Efficiency Expert who teaches small business owners and entrepreneurs how to increase their business efficiency and get unstuck.  I officially started out as a Virtual Assistant (VA) in 2007. Being insanely organized and an uber planner SMac To The Rescue started off with a bang and it just keeps growing, having now evolved into a Multi-VA practice.

It wasn't long before I realized that some things that seemed like common sense to me were in fact a real struggle for other business owners, and so I naturally fell into the role of breaking down projects into manageable pieces, coaching business owners on how to become more efficient, and bascially coming to the rescue of every solopreneur that crosses my path! I love it when my geekiness perfectly compliments a client's business gaps.

I used to be (and still am) a coding geek - are you a geek too? Let's chat! Love cats? Me too! I will ooh and aah about cats any chance I get. Like to dance? Teach dance? Watch dance of all kinds? Bring it on! I've tried so many different kinds of dance and a few have become my lifelong passions.

Re: A Tip to Increase Traffic Re: A Tip to Increase Traffic - If you are not familiar with what podcasting is, here's an official definition from the Wikipedia.org website: a series of audio or video digital-media files which is distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers. In layman's terms - it is an audio recording that is made available to internet users through websites and other digital outlets. You'll want to be sure to get listed in major podcast directories. One example, Podcast.net or Apple's iTunes store. Be sure your title is very eye-catching. You may have the perfect audio topic, but if your title reads "first of my podcasts, come listen" who would be enticed to even click the link? This title says nothing about what you can offer the listener.
