Get your finances in order for 2009

Over the past 30 days our economy went on a series of “oohs” and “awhhs”. The media is to blame for this massive panic. Everyone is encouraged to turn off the TV and focus on their small business finances for the next quarter – Q1 of 2009 is rapidly approaching, are you going to have the finances to get into the groove?

IUG has been quoted by the Los Angeles Times for having the lenders, but no clients to redeem the financing!

The time to focus on things like a business credit report is now. It only makes sense to plan for more lending in the near future.

Unfortunately, most of you that are reading this article realize one thing – our opinion on the state of the economy is going to go as far as the Thanksgiving turkey carving Thursday night. With the holiday of giving thanks coming up in a few days, the reality of the situation is that we can only sit on the side lines and watch the president-elect Obama piece together his troops for D-Day next year. This is why the recommendation is to enjoy your feast, try not to fall asleep before 10pm on Thanksgiving night and wake up motivated to focus on things that matter – getting your business credit and finances setup for a solid start in 2009.

Sincerely,

Over the course of the last 10 years as an entreprenuer I have successfully launched, managed, and sold off several businesses. Each organization has added some value to my understanding of the business world today. My philosophy has been that 9 things out of 10 that I try will fail, but that golden one is always worth the battle. In my experience that has proven to be the case and my successful businesses still operate today under the management of those whom I have sold off to.

Life of claims! Life of claims! - Hello, Although we all know that the life of any patent at the uspto is 20 years, I have another concern about as to weather a patent can be renewed by just appending a few unique claims just before it expires. For example, say I was granted a patent in 1990 and in 2009 I decide to further protect some of those claims so no one can use them for another 20 years. Therefore am I allowed to create a new product very similar to the original one patented in the 1990 and append a couple of new and original claims to it and re-patent it in 2009 thus allowing a better version of the original product to be patented for another 20 years. If the 2009 patent gets granted, would the original claims included in the 1990 patent be valid and protected for another 20 years? Thankyou all for your feedback! With regards Rob
To grow or not to grow? To grow or not to grow? - I was reading an article in a business magazine recently about a company who just acquired a major customer and needed to hire 100 new staffers to accommodate the order (now that is a big order!). This is typically an easy thing to finance for investors - you have a purchase order and just need the money to fulfill it. I have also seen a number of companies grow to quickly and then go bust because they could not handle their own growth rate. Is it better to grow slowly and organically or try to hit it big and get the funding even if you risk losing the whole company?
Re: Does birth order influence the desire to start a business? Re: Does birth order influence the desire to start a business? - I think this study is bogus. I don't think birth order influences any of this. It's the nature vs nurture argument magnified. Some is nature, but most is nurtured through child development and adolescence. Birth order has nothing to do with it.
Re: 10 Tips to Start an Online Business Re: 10 Tips to Start an Online Business - [quote="Anya101":1y6il6zm] 5. Make it very easy for people to order your products. The easier the order process, the more orders you will get. Make sure your payment pages are secured. If you accept payment online, it is [/quote:1y6il6zm] *This* is very good advice. I went to a site a couple of weeks ago to order a DVD, an independent movie, and instead of having Paypal, I had to jump through hoops to sign up for their payment system. It would have taken me more minutes than I cared to spend, so I just didn't bother!
