How Twitter can have a postive effect on your business

Twitter has seemingly come out of nowhere and taken the internet by storm, everyone and their dog is using it to post short updates about their lives, whether they're out shopping or have just discovered they are out of milk, great. But how can Twitter be used more effectively for marketing purposes within a business environment?

Twitter can be an excellent tool in the same way Facebook lets you create fan pages and groups to engage with your customers. By setting up a Twitter account and promoting it via your standard advertising channels (newsletters, etc) you can quickly gain a modest/large gang of followers who are all keen to hear of your latest updates, offers, etc that may not yet otherwise be available. Many businesses use Twitter for giveaways very successfully to attract more followers and gain exposure to people they may otherwise never have accessed.

You can also use Twitter to give your followers exclusive deals that are only available on Twitter, thus creating an exclusive club - something people want to be part of and interact with. It also gives a more personal feel to your business, by regularly Tweeting your followers these people get to learn what your business is really like and as a result you may pick up a new audience of customers.

You can also use the Search function within twitter to see if people are searching for things within your industry and then engage with them directly, again just another simple way to use Twitter to help grow your business.

Re: The Flaw In Personal Branding...? Re: The Flaw In Personal Branding...? - Hi, Good article, I do agree with the USP way of marketing. I liked the example it gave: Many, if not most, products and product lines will benefit from marketing that stresses the USP. If, for example, you are launching a business that sells organic pet food, your USP should emphasize the fact that all your products are green. Your company's name might express that benefit, as should the product names, the packaging you choose, and the layout and design of your marketing and product materials. And your USP should be a major component in the design of and sales copy on your website, as well as your Internet ads and landing pages. All that promotion of your USP will have the effect of creating an idea in a potential customer's mind that will have the same effect that branding has for large businesses. And that effect - which is a higher-than-average initial response rate to your marketing due to consumer familiarity - will also work with your existing customers on the back end.
Re: Twitter vs Facebook Re: Twitter vs Facebook - I use Facebook pages for Business and rarely ever use Twitter. I hace lost count of the no. of Hotels that I have visited, regarding their marketing campaigns, that may have 5k Facebook Fans and only 100 followers on Twitter. It is a lot more difficult to engage with people on Twitter and thus harder to gain traction. If you are a business like Nike, then Twitter is great, but if you are an SME, then focus on Facebook or LinkedIn (if you are providing a professional service.) You can always have your Facebook feed directly in to Twitter, so you can have a presence on both, but do the work on one. Also check out ping.fm for managing campaigns - it is a free tool, and a great time saver.
Re: Facebook v Twitter Re: Facebook v Twitter - I've always liked and used Facebook more than Twitter. But I have started using Twitter a little more often lately, and I don't use FB much for business, but I do still get on FB much more than Twitter.
Unconventional Twitter Ideas Unconventional Twitter Ideas - Hi guys, As some of you may or may not know, I follow EvanCarmichael.com authors on Twitter for a multitude of reasons but mostly to listen and to stay engaged with our authors' business. With that said, I'm really looking to expand our reach on Twitter (maybe to potential authors/small business owners/entrepreneurs etc.) or to improve on existing relationships with followers. Have you guys heard of any businesses that are using their Twitter in an unconventional sense?
