However, by following these following points you can not only learn how to effectively write a press release for your business, but can also witness just how effective this form of marketing can be for you.

The first thing you need to do in terms of your press release is clearly identify who your target market is. A press release can be targeted towards two different markets, but depending on the market you are aiming the content towards, the style of writing and information included will differ. An advertising press release will be written in order to appeal to the consumer whereas a traditional, informative press release will be written with a journalist in mind. If writing for the latter, you need to think about what the journalist's requirements may be, and think about a number of aspects of the purpose of the piece such as ‘why should I be interested in this?' and ‘what about your business/service should make me inform others about it?' You need to also think about what kind of headline will cause enough intrigue for the reader to want to listen to the contents of your press release. It is beneficial to put yourself in the shoes of the listener-would you be interested in reading your press release and what aspects of it do you think were more appealing than others?

The main aim of your press release should be to keep it short and sweet. A press release is meant to be a taster of the full story as it were, and create intrigue to make the reader want to learn more about you. Opting for a long winded piece of writing will simply make the reader lose interest and if there is any interest, the selected publication will contact you for further information. Aim to keep your press release to a maximum of 500 words and ensure that the piece is informative, news worthy and only includes the most vital pieces of information and facts which will pack a punch.

If you possess great writing skills, you are likely to be able to write great copy. However, if you are not knowledgeable on what will interest your readers, your words can simply fall flat. When looking to submit your press release to a specific publication, it is advantageous to research into what interests the readers of the publication have and what other stories they include. This will help in gaining better understanding of what the readers needs are which means you are likely to gain a more enthusiastic response from your press release. Once you have submitted your press release to the relevant publications, you should then await a response from them. Never inquire as to whether it has been read or received as this may aggravate the publicists. You may also opt to submit your finished press release onto a range of online sites which can help to launch you on the web also.
