The Myth of Retirement for the Entrepreneur

Written by: Nuala Duignan

Article Overview: There is inside you, from a time before you ever became aware of it, a vision and calling to do something extraordinary. The age of your body cannot touch this spark that calls you to shine. However, the candle of the body may waver, this light of spirit never goes out. Deep down inside you have something remarkable that you’d love to share, accomplish and be. Everyone has this spark, and there’s no end to it because it’s beyond who you think you are. It’s your true nature. It doesn’t matter if you are 20, 50, or 80 years old, you have an immortal purpose and a dream that seeks fulfillment.

The Myth of Retirement for the Entrepreneur

There's a pervasive and limiting illusion concerning time and aging, and unconsciously buying into it can diminish both your life and your future, while seeing through it can add years to your life and life to your years. Many people believe that youth is a heavenly time of optimism and energy before the "hellish"! decline into old age and death. That's true only, if you make it so, and you really do have the power to choose. This myth has little to do with the reality of life and human potential. Chronological age is certainly not the only determining factor. There is inside you, from a time before you ever became aware of it, a vision and calling to do something extraordinary. The age of your body cannot touch this spark that calls you to shine. However, the candle of the body may waver, this light of spirit never goes out. Deep down inside you have something remarkable that you'd love to share, accomplish and be. Everyone has this spark, and there's no end to it because it's beyond who you think you are. It's your true nature. It doesn't matter if you are 20, 50, or 80 years old, you have an immortal purpose and a dream that seeks fulfillment.

You don't run out of time, you only shut out your inspiration. If you're nearing retirement, your timing in reading this is perfect. If you're not, this may be your opportunity to transcend a myth in advance and change the way you think about and manifest your future.

You have probably heard the old adage, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail"! This may be an old adage, but it is just as up to date today as it was in the past. People who fail to plan set themselves up for failure. If you do not plan for your life/retirement, you let other people plan it. And you live someone else's dream

Master Plan!

What does this mean in your life? Every single day (do not miss a day) take a few moments to sit down and organize and plan your life. Start with spirituality, mental development, career development, and move from there into financial development, family development, social development, and physical development. Spiritual, mental, vocational, financial, family, social, and physical! Put something down for each one of these major categories of life, as you begin to plan your unique life, your dream, and your vision! Draw out your plans on a computer or on paper. Take your dreams from inside your heart, and put them down on paper. There is something magical in translating intangible ideas into tangible realities on paper. The first step in taking an idea and giving it form and reality is to write it down.

A short pencil is better than a long memory. Sometimes we have a jumbled up idea, but when we crystallise it on paper or type it in, and really edit it and refine it, our plans begin to manifest. We literally start to attract the ideas and events that we hold in our mind. The plan helps us direct that!

Is The E-Myth The Ultimate Franchise Guide? Is The E-Myth The Ultimate Franchise Guide? - Ever since the E-Myth made its way through to becoming one of the most popular books for entrepreneurs, the number of small business owners who have come to me discussing franchising has exploded. Is the E-Myth the reason why so many companies are now looking at franchising their business model? Are there any other resources you can suggest for new franchise owners or people considering it as an option?
E-Myth? What's That? E-Myth? What's That? - I second FranchiseBrief... What's the E-Myth? I've never heard of it, although I feel stupid saying so. Any insight available?
The E-Myth The E-Myth - Hi Tami, I really enjoyed reading your post and I agree wholeheartedly with you. Most people, and women are specifically, end up building for themselves a job instead of a scale-able business. We recently had this discussion in the Inventors Corner postings, inventor vs. ceo. Check it out. Also, congrats on starting to build yourself some passive income streams. If you'd like help with that, please let me know. One of my favourite resources, without all the bling bling, is Stephanie Chandlers "From Entrepreneur to Infopreneur'. Its been a great eye opener. As well as the famous E-Myth by Michael Gerber In my business we have spent a lot of time developing systems. Now that we are working on launching a new division for women exclusively, it will be those systems that we emulate! Good luck! Jude
Franchise Models Franchise Models - There's a really interesting book about franchise models. Written by Michael Gerber, 'The E-Myth' is all about setting up an individual business and creating it in a franchise mold which will enable it's success. Definitely worth a read.
A Simple Test A Simple Test - I have no franchise, I've got to say this upfront, but, using the 'The E-Myth Revisited' principle as well as a self-taught measure I used for myself and have taught others since. Is it capable of working just as well, if not better if you are not there? If this isn't possible, what tweaks need to happen to make this so? That, I believe, is what might make it franchisable (as well as all the technical stuff that's been said before).
