Open a Second Hand Store: 4 Ways to Increase Your Success

One of the big benefits that second hand store businesses offer is that they give entrepreneurs the opportunity to start retail businesses without having to pay for lots of expensive inventory. If you are trying to launch a company on a budget and have a flair for fashion, selling consignment clothing can be a great way to make money.

Second hand stores have gone beyond the traditional thrift shop. Consignment boutiques are popping up with high-end clothing that costs significantly more, but still offers great value to it's customers. People love bargains, even if they can afford to pay full price, and consignment stores also attract buyers who want to wear expensive brand-name clothing but cannot afford the department store price tag.

There are lots of potential consignment shop customers, but shop owners should pay attention to a few key factors to increase their rate of success.

Choose a Theme

Focus on a type of clothing that you want to carry and niche market that you want to reach. Do not try to sell everything or you will get lost in the sear of retail stores. Being known for themes such as having high end evening wear, career clothes or children's consignment items will attract customers who are looking for those things. Make sure customers can easily understand the theme of your shop by the shop name, your store sign, business cards, etc.

Good Location

Your store location matters. Being situated in areas with large amounts of foot traffic will help you right from the start. Set up shop in an area where your target market goes. For instance, if you are selling children's consignment clothing, see if you can lease space close by to other businesses related to kids. This will help bring in shoppers. Another benefit to good location is that you can decrease your advertising expenses. Adequate parking will help attract more customers as well.

Be Selective

Be selective about the clothes you are selling, whether you accept donations, consignment pieces or shop garage sales or thrift stores. Establish a reputation for carrying stylish, quality items and offering good value to your customers. Have items cleaned and check that they are not in need of repair. When you create the environment of an upscale boutique, shoppers will treat it that way and respect the prices you charge.

Establish Good Relationships with Sellers

People who come to you to sell their clothing on consignment are not only product suppliers, but can also become buyers and a good source of referrals. Make it easy to do business with you and offer a fair sales agreement, and word-of-mouth advertising can work in your favor.

Re: iPhone Apps: Biz Idea! Re: iPhone Apps: Biz Idea! - San Diego, California – Got an idea for a killer iPhone app? With more than 1 billion applications sold since its launch last July, Apple’s iPhone App Store has become one of the fastest-growing tech enterprises in recent history, and gained a reputation as something of a developer’s goldmine. Success stories such as that of Ethan Nicholas, whose iShoot app has earned him $900,000 in eight months, have only added to the App Store’s appeal for would-be iPhone entrepreneurs. “The runaway success of the App Store has created the legend of the iPhone millionaire,” says Ian Maskell, principal of iPhone App Freelancer, a company aiming to make it possible to get your idea into the App Store without technical knowledge and minimal financial outlay. “Everywhere we went people would say: ‘I’ve got a great idea for an app.’ We saw an opportunity to level the playing field and allow anyone the ability to become the next success story, regardless of their ability to program or write code.” So Maskell launched iPhone App Freelancer, a website offering the ability to turn great ideas into apps with little or no programming knowledge. Rob Shoesmith, a 27-year-old garbage collector from Coventry – England, submitted one of the first ideas to iPhone App Freelancer for development. Shoesmith says he has only had an iPhone for a few months, but has been following the growth of the App Store since its launch. He wants to keep the specifics of his app under wraps until its launch, but describes it as a user-generated advice service.
Re: Exotic Tea Shop Website for Review Re: Exotic Tea Shop Website for Review - Hi David, - Background is nice and fitting, but I don't like the header. The title completely blends in with the background? - About Us shouldn't be second from the left on the navigation bar. People read from left to right. The commercial intent is to buy, the online store should probably be second. - Online Tea Store... too many choices without supplementary information. No description of product choice. oz and pricing should be stylized separately from the name of the product. - Online Tea Store.... Visuals is definitely very important in raising commercial intent. Someone who comes to the site through SEO is searching for exotic teas and not particulars. Meaning they're browsing. Text is not enough for a browsing shopper. - World of Tea... the information can be organized a bit better. Again, visuals. Some of this info belongs to online tea store. I'm not too sure on the name. - Tea & Treasure... not sure on this name either... mainly because you have "World of Tea" next to it. Navigation should be transparent in conveying information to the users. Why not call it "Find Us" or "Visit Us"? - Email newseletter.... "occasional updates" containing what exactly? Again, my humble opinion. Hope you find it useful!
