Supplies You Need to Start a Scrapbooking Business
If you want to start a business making and selling scrapbooks, you must be prepared with scrapbooking supplies and materials before you sell your services. Not only do you need to be ready to take on jobs, scrapbook supplies will help you create a portfolio of your work. Your portfolio will demonstrate to potential clients that you have the skills and knowledge to design the scrapbooks they want.
But what supplies and materials do you need to start a scrapbooking business?
Crafting Materials:
If you have created scrapbooks as a hobby, you know you will need a variety of craft supplies that help you build the album but also create a unique look. These items include albums, extra refill pages, scissors, acid-free adhesive, acid-free pens, card stock, patterned paper and other embellishments like stickers, ribbons, transparencies, stencils and stamps.
Office Supplies:
Office supplies include a computer, printer, scanner, internet connection and telephone line. Although you do not want to spend more money that you have to, it is a good idea to be prepared to handle tasks that your clients request.
In addition, the more equipment you have to manage multiple tasks, the more efficiently you can run your business and the more jobs you can handle. If you are working on a budget, get the equipment you need to start and then invest in additional supplies as you grow your business and have the income to spend.
If you plan on working out of your home, set up a separate work space. This can help you stay organized, avoid distractions and complete work faster.
Marketing Materials:
Business cards can can be used to advertise your scrapbooking services. They also can help you present a professional business image. An attractive business card that includes creativity and your own professional logo can even show off your design skills and style. In addition to your contact information, add a short summary of the services you provide and the benefit of doing business with you.
Put together a few sample scrapbooks so that you can share your talents with potential clients. Include a variety, such as a wedding album, a scrapbook for children, a reunion album, etc.. If you can, include references from past clients or from people for whom you've created scrapbooks. Not only can you give prospects an idea of your creative skills, but also your reliability, timeliness and professionalism.
Make a website. Site creation can seem overwhelming at first, but with the right hosting company, designing your own website can be a very simple and fun task. A website is an effective way of displaying your work, similar to a brochure, but it is accessible instantly and cheaper to produce. You can also change it at any time and include lots more information than promotional business materials in print.
A business website can show off your design work and also provide your contact information. You can also add customer testimonials, references background information on you and your business. Clients want to know who they are doing business with, and the more information your website can provide, the less "selling" you will have to do.

Exclusive: Interview with Results
- Hi Forum Members,
I'm helping start up a Business Coaching and Consulting company here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (a Subsidiary of RSC Business in Los Angeles).
As a Research and Development Intern I am required to practice my listening and interview skills by surveying Small and Medium Businesses on thier Business.
This Survey is designed by RSC Business to also assist the Business being interviewed more insight into their own business.
I am looking to interview about 30 businesses across North America over the span of 3 months.
At the end of these interviews I will be publishing a report of the results and they will be made available for free to the Interviewees. The Report data will include responses from a minimum of 100 interviews.
I would like to extend this opportunity to members of the Forum.
If you would like to have this short 20-30 minute interview conducted on your Business and you reside in North America please send me an email or PM.
Please contact me at andy[at]jvprosperity[dot]com to arrange our interview and to get free access to the results when they are published.
Books for Women Entrepreneurs
- There's a thread for good books in the Resources folder, but it doesn't target books for businesswomen particularly, so I figured I'd start such a thread here.
It doesn't matter how successful you are in your business - it's always possible to learn something new.
In subsequent posts I give Table of Contents and brief descriptions for various titles - most of them devoted to the businesswoman - and sometimes a review. If anyone else has read a review, or has read the book and found it useful, please comment!
