'Check' This Tax and Business Strategy
Business is a product if strategy. Someone a long time ago knew that if there was demand, any product could be marketed for profit. This is not news to any one. Regardless if you are having a yard sale or running your own corporation, there are certain strategies that successful businesses follow to ensure smooth operation. This applies to front of house as well as back office. Back office duties include a large amount of record keeping. One large portion of the records is designated to taxes.
Taxes are a large part of everyday life. As a business, taxes are a very important to keep record of. One of the best strategies for keeping records straight is using three-part checks. By using a separate checkbook and three-part checks, it will prove to be a low-cost and effective way to maintain tax records. Three-part checks are easy to use as well. Part one is the original part of the check. This part is sent directly to the vendor or payee. Part two is to be kept and filed in the vendor (or payee's) file. Attach this part of the check to any receipts or invoices so they are kept together to avoid any confusion. Part three is simply for reference. For yourself, or the IRS. This can be kept in a separate file, traditionally numerical, for easy access.
The use of three-part checks is a great way to maintain a clutter free and manageable record system. As a part of strategy, it may be the key to that smooth operation that keeps a business running like a well-oiled machine.
