Possibilities and Potential
As we close the books on another year, it becomes clear what we
achieved and where we hit the target, and also what didn’t get done and where
our efforts went way off target. So looking forward, it’s important to look at
both the possibilities of all we can do to refine our craft and increase
profits, and at the same time not burn out.
I read an interesting article in the Sunday paper about young
people building careers. They have the work ethic to establish themselves well
in their chosen careers (i.e., work long hours), but are not as driven as their
parents (aka baby boomers) to keep it up for decades. They’ve seen the cost of
their parents’ definition of success in terms of heart attack, stroke and death
well before retirement age, never mind dysfunctional families. They want a
life, balance, outside interests - and they want that balance now – even before
they settle down or have a family.
As your business has developed from the first few sales to the
100th or the 1000th, what are you doing to keep the balance? Do you make time
for family, home, fun or vacations?
To keep your enthusiasm alive for long term growth and success,
you can’t burn out in the short term. I agree business can become all consuming
and overwhelming – especially for solopreneurs, if you let it. I’ve been there
a few times myself.
Here are some ideas to renew your passion and keep the
possibilities flowing:
1. Go back to your vision of why you started your business –
separate your emotions from the day-to- day rigmarole. Write done the reasons
and keep them handy. Look at them regularly to keep your passion flowing.
2. Write down the larger purpose of your business – remember, your
work affects the lives of many people – more than you realize. Try to find a
new benefit every day – create more possibilities.
3. Take time to brainstorm periodically (weekly, monthly,
quarterly) with no expectation of immediate results. Mind-mapping and
heart-mapping are two good tools to use. Take one idea and list the simple
action steps to follow through. This will take the blinders off your thinking.
If something works out – celebrate!
4. Always show everyone your belief and enthusiasm for your
business. Enthusiasm and passion are contagious. Always speak positively about
your business, your goals, and your successes. Your energy flows through your words
which others will reflect back to you. Invite new possibilities by sharing your
conviction in what you do and your affection for the business itself.
If you’re like me, you have this little voice in your head that
keeps you pushing harder than most. You keep looking for ways to maximize your
potential, to be open to opportunity and ready to initiate change – all in
order to achieve your full potential. It all starts with possibility thinking.
Do It Now!
What
will you do now to boost your business next year? Are you ready to initiate
change?

Your age?
- Hi Nana,
Have you voted? You can give your age group a boost.
What is your Potential?
On another forum I read of a 17 year old, who always earned some money.
He washed cars and had regular repeat income. Eventually he gave it to his friend, then he did the newspaper round.
Then he learnt about the Internet and games. Got fed up and began to learn programming. Eventually he earnd a good income and by the time he was your age, he earned beyond 100,000 Australian Dollars.
Give yourself a vote.
Kindest Regards

Re: Cold Calling
- In my experience the problem with hiring cold callers is that many of the successful candidates already realize that they have a talent for sales and are already working for themselves. Most of the candidates that would take a job cold calling most likely do not have solid selling or client service skills.
I used to work for a brokerage firm in Victoria and we hired co-op students to cold call. In my opinion that was a mistake. Potential clients can sense inexperience very quickly and without a seasoned cold caller on your team prospecting will be very challenging.....the key is to find someone with skills that isn't already doing there own selling....tricky.
Good luck

Re: your personality type?
- Hi Michelle!
If you are the present-moment focused, this is your result. If it doesn't seem spot on, I'll give you the big-picture focused result.
The Enjoyer of Life. You enthusiastically enjoy experiencing the five senses, creative pursuits and social harmony in the here-and-now. You are independent, socially upbeat, and enjoy creating a positive and happy atmosphere. Despite your outgoing “persona,” you are a private person and few people truly know you well). #1 Strength:
Comfort Creator #2 Strength: Expressing Social Feeling
1) Comfort Creator -- Creating a comfortable physical environment. Feels the ?ve senses vividly. Adept at using objects, or ?nding or building objects, to make a physical space the most soothing to all ?ve senses. Also organizing so objects are easily found in a convenient way. Both the physical comfort of self, and others, is important. Often feel a need to ensure those close to them are warm enough, fed, rested, etc. Will easily offer help to others in these areas, lending a jacket, or offering a snack.
2) Expressing Social Feeling Setting an emotional tone, vibrant, energetic, or serious, etc. Concerned with the emotional environment as it?s happening -- the vibe of people at a party, the tone of a situation, other people?s responses. Setting the tone -- dramatic and serious, or lighthearted and a celebration. Emotional displays are important for knowing how others are feeling, whether bad or good. Someone talking in a monotone about feelings seems insincere. Feels should be shown, so they can be read by others.
Your best type would be:
The Conceptualizer. You are an inventive creator of logical systems of possibilities that you use to create processes,
products or strategies. Socially, you are sometimes quiet, but also find yourself acting as the life of the party,
especially when you get caught up in a debate or entertaining topic of conversation. #1 Strength: Generating
Future Possibilities #2 Strength: Systematic/Rule Logic
Re: Hi From START.ac CrowdFunding
- Hi Mal,
I would love to explain a little further. START(dot)ac is a new International CrowdFunding website, and we are launching this May 2012. CrowdFunding is when a large number of people each contribute a small amount of money to fund a project. We are forming a website to host these projects on, and building a strong and large community of individuals who are interested in helping the "next big thing" be a success. Imagine if you were there for the beginning of Google or Apple, and your donations of $1 or $500 helped to bring it to life! Along with major bragging rights, if a project is successful, people who funded it get rewards depending on how much money they gave the project.
At the summary level - We expands the CrowdFunding market to make a home for startup businesses and technology products. STARTac is the professional CrowdFunding site for startups and tech products. We also accept projects in many other categories (listed at the bottom).
We have made nine innovations that improve upon the status quo in CrowdFunding. One is that we have inverted the selection process of projects. Potential projects go into CrowdAudition™, where our members give feedback and advice to improve the projects where relevant. The members' input plays a key role in selection of which projects go to funding. Taking this approach also means that rejected project' drivers know why they were rejected, and can better decide if and how to improve their current project, or start from scratch.
We are assembling a bench of Mentors - experienced entrepreneurs and executives who want to help the new guys avoid the mistakes they made.
Please let me know what you think. When we launch we will be revealing all of our nine innovative programs to the public. We are also looking for projects to host on our website for when we launch. These projects will get extra media attention and publicity throughout our social media. If you have any other questions, PLEASE feel free to ask!
The categories of projects we accept are below:

Manufacture of POTATO Flour / POTATO Powder
- Manufacture of POTATO Flour / POTATO Powder
About Project
Setting up of a unit for manufacture of potato powder
About Product and its use:
Potato powder is increasingly being used in a variety of food preparations like snack foods (Mc Donald, Pringle, Haldiram namkeens etc.), soups, curries and other dishes as a thickening agent. Its use at present is mainly in hotels, restaurants, but acceptance in household is growing due to its inclusion in items like ready to cook soups, dals, curries, etc.
Market Potential:
The potato powder is supplied in bulk to the manufacturers of the various snack food items and restaurants/ hotels. The major demand is in cities like Mumbai, Delhi , Chennai, Nagpur , etc. The demand is much more than the supply at present and is likely to grow with the increasing popularity of the snack foods and other items where potato powder is used as input. There is good potential for its export also.
Production process and technology:
Procurement of potato -> Washing -> Cooking -> Pulping -> Drum drying -> Potato Powder -> Packaging -> Marketing
The plant and machinery can be used for producing other products like fruit powder, tomato powder, etc.
Key risk factors:
Availability of adequate quantity of suitable chip varieties, which are used for powder making (like Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Chipsona) is the major factor which could affect the project.
Availability of alternatives to potato powder for thickening like tapioca, corn starch etc., could affect the market of potato powder adversely. However at present there is no problem
Quality control and Statutory Requirements
The unit need to obtain a licence under FPO 1955 from the Ministry of Food Processing Industry
Clearance from State Pollution Control Board
Capacity of processing raw material (potato):
a) Indigenous technology - 32 MT/ day of potato for 90 days per annum.
b) Imported technology - 96 MT/ day of potato for 90 days
Capacity utilisation is assumed on 90 days basis as the storage facilities for these varieties are not commonly available. However, capacity utilisation can be increased if the existing cold storages are modified suitably with an additional investment of about Rs 2000/ MT.
Potato powder recovery: 17% of the raw material.
Cost of raw material (potato): Rs 2500 per MT,
Sale price of powder: Rs. 55000/ MT.
Manpower requirement:
a) Indigenous technology: Skilled and trained - 2 Nos; Unskilled - 3 Nos
b) Imported technology: Technical - 2 Nos; Skilled - 2 Nos; Semi-skilled - 3 Nos.
Power requirement:
a) Indigenous technology: 40 HP
b) Imported technology: 60 HP
Water requirement:
a) Indigenous technology: 1,50,000 litres per day.
b) Imported technology: 5,00,000 litres per day.
