What makes a good project manager?

While good leadership is crucial to the success of a project, it is not the only trait a good Project Manager must possess. This person should have good people skills, be a good communicator, have the foresight to assess potential risks, be a good strategist and also have the skills to manage the budget attached to the job.

Functions of the Project Manager

In a small business, it is often the same person who manages ad hoc projectstogetherwith his day-today management duties. For larger assignments, you may decide to hire a consultant to fill this position. But no matter who the person is, there is a specific set of criteria he has to fulfill during the course of his work.

The Project Manager must:

Part of the Project Manager's responsibilities is to communicate with all the relevant stakeholders from the beginning right through to completion. To ensure that this happens, he must:

The bottom line is that an effective Project Manager has to have vision, a mission and the will to complete his mission. If this hat is one of the many you have to wear in your business, these guidelines will go a long way in helping you.

Why A Project Fails? Why A Project Fails? - Hello Everyone As the size and complexity of ones business grows, so does their need to effectively manage projects. I have been thinking about the major reasons why a project can go wrong and my limited experience comes up with the following. 1 Leadership: A project manager with leadership skills and not just management skills. 2 Failure to (Foresee and) Plan 3 Failure to Manage: Ineffective change management control methods. Unclear decision making guidelines. 4 Talent: Finding, allocating and developing people 5 Scope: Setting an overly ambitious or amibigious project scope 6 Alignment: When projects are not prioritized in alignment with the business strategy, or project members personal objectives are not in tandem with that of the project / company 7 Lack of Candor: Communication Breakdowns I would be interested in knowing everyone's thoughts on this, especially on ways to overcome the above mentioned obstacles. Cheers!
Someone please FIRE OMAROSA Someone please FIRE OMAROSA - Ah, Kevin - you hit the nail on the head. I cant believe that Omarosa didnt get escorted out of the building. She is a bully and a vicous backstabber. I dont think Marylou was doing anything wrong - except having to 'watch' her back so much it made her nervous. Omarosa was the one that went full tilt on the wedding theme, and it fact, lied to Trump when she said they asked Vera the same question. They did not! and that is why the end product didnt make the cut. I was really proud of Nelly for standing up for herself. So many times the women seem to forgot how smart and strong they are when they come to the boardroom. In anycase, someone should of brought up the point that Piers made after. Omarosa as project manager, lost both times! You're FIRED!! or someone could run her over with their car, either way I am soooo looking forward to her getting the boot. But I guess she makes for good drama ridden TV. If it werent for her, more real work would get done... Did anyone watch Lipstick JUngle??
Books that should be written Books that should be written - [quote:1m0dcpd7]"The Idiots Guide To Sticking With One Thing At A Time and Not Doing Something New All The Time" [/quote:1m0dcpd7] I myself am a 'constructive' procrastinator... I don't know if I'm alone in this. I have about six or seven projects I'm working on at any given time. I get one project almost done... then my interest is piqued by another project and I work on that... I get burnt out and move to another...I know I do this so I have it arranged such that once I get bored or burnt out with one project, I can step right back into project 1 - or 2 or 3, and get that a little bit more done before moving on to something else. As long as you're organized and know where all your reference material/idea sheets are when you're ready to get back to work on each project, it should be fine. I also find that by stepping away from a project - I still work on it in the recesses of my mind so that when I go back to it - it's with some good ideas that I wouldn't have had if I'd continued on with it originally. Maybe I should write a book on how to Procrastinate Constructively... I've actually thought about doing that...because most people procrastinate, don't they...and very few are ever able to stop.
dreamhost file manager dreamhost file manager - I'm not familiar with Geocities file manager. I have been using Dreamhost for the last 3 years and am quite pleased with the service. I haven't had my sites go down like others have stated. Thier file manager is quite good and even has dates as to when the last file was saved. They have a webftp service (I believe you refered to this as a 'File Manager') and it's very quick. some of the benefits of hosting with them is that the longer you stay with them the more bandwidth and file storage capacity they provide you. This usually goes up each week or month - i forget.
Re: Ideas For Business Re: Ideas For Business - Hi, I'm Lucy's partner for this project and I think I came up with an idea of how to attract people. Sure selling is one thing, but heres something that definitely attracts people and thats charity! Everywhere you look today, even in the subway their selling pizzas that cost much higher then what you could buy at the store, but mostly people buy them because they know their money would go to charity and that makes them feel good and makes them think that they have just made a difference. I still have not figured out the percentage but if we donate like 25% of the money earned to charity for example, more people would buy. Charity is used in business to help people out but as well as attract more customers to their business. I know this might sound like a stupid idea but hey you can never know for sure until you try your ideas. Thats what business is all about.
