Why Green The Wave of the Future

The modern age is getting cleaner by the minute. The president is traveling around the world to attend global climate change conferences. The nation is making a decision to buy more recycled and eco-friendly products. Yet, in many companies, it is business as usual. Memos are written on single sheets of paper and tossed in disgust because the sentiment was not exactly what the author wanted. While there is something satisfying about crushing a bad idea in the palm of your hand, it is not very good for the environment to be so wasteful.

It has been proven that companies with a green initiative have a better chance of being successful than those who do not. They are embraced by their communities and they are bolstered by their clients. With the ability to enjoy better profits, it leads many companies to wonder how they can get started with a green initiative. It is actually easier than many companies might first think. All it takes is a little bit of foresight on the part of the company and a little education for the employees. Before long, you will notice that your company has a stronger image and better profitability.

Going Green Makes Green

One of the first things most suggest to go green is to change the amount of paper you use. This includes sending interdepartmental memos in the forms of emails or text messages. There is no reason to send a fax when you can just as easily email a PDF file. When your employees use the office copiers, they should think about what they are doing. Make the most of the paper you are using. Use multiple pages per page printed. Most of the digital copiers will also allow you to print on both sides of the paper. Using less paper means you buy less.

Recycle Those Old Batteries

Think about all of the machinery in your office which uses batteries. Calculators, pencil sharpeners and laptops all run on batteries. Your company can do its part by making sure that all of the old batteries are not being sent to the landfill. This is because of the harmful effects the old battery acid can have on the environment now and in the future. Instead, look for organizations in your community which will accept or properly dispose of old batteries. The more you raise awareness in your community, the more your positive image will grow.

Invest in Telecommuting

Many companies have been allowing employees to work from home full time or at least part time. This benefits your company in the fact you are using less energy at work. It also helps in that you can use the space they would have worked in for other things. The effect it has on the environment is that the employee will not have to drive in to work every day. This is easily accomplished by providing networks for the employees to receive and complete work for the day.

Baby Boomers, Life Support and Trading Down, however, seem like good markets. As for Green technology goes, I don't think the business has to be entirely based on Green ideologies, but rather a business that embrace Green philosophies and use that as a marketing tool.

Re: Are you a Blue, Red, or Green? Re: Are you a Blue, Red, or Green? - Hum... a lot of reds responding... Business owners must be a very aggressive community. Now, I was surprised when I took the course personally to find out I was a Green, secondary Blue. Of course, not believing this, the first thing I did was turn to those around me to get their opinions on my colours (typical Green!). The only thing I can really say about STRUCTOGRAM is that it was fun to explore the depths of my social and physiological make-up... I did this a over a year ago now and still use it in my daily interactions (always be on your toes with Reds).
